Gobble Gobble! Thanksgiving Cheers from the Office of the President!

Cultural Celebrations - Gratitude - Harvest Festival - Nigeria - Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Come feast your eyes on warm greetings from the U-M family and community!

Thanksgiving is a time-honored tradition celebrated in many parts of the world, but over here, we cherish it as an opportunity to reflect on gratitude and connection. In a heartfelt message from the Office of the President, colleagues were greeted warmly as they come together to celebrate a season of thankfulness. Bringing with it a spirit of unity, this gathering goes beyond just food; it’s about community, love, and appreciation for the people who make our lives richer.

As we feast on turkey and pumpkin pie, let’s think back to the first Thanksgiving, where families and friends gathered to share the bountiful harvest and foster peace. The President's message emphasized that Thanksgiving isn’t just about today. It’s a continual reminder of how blessed we are. It’s a lovely nod to those Arkansas roots, where blessings flow abundantly and the warmth of family is always wrapped around you like a cozy blanket.

This Thanksgiving, let’s acknowledge the unsung heroes who could probably use few more slices of pie: our friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been our pillars of support throughout the year. Perhaps while you’re organizing your pathetic attempt at folding napkins or finding a way to avoid Aunt Mary’s questions about your love life, take a moment to appreciate everyone in your circle. Life can get hectic, but these relationships are like gold in our lives.

So, as we gather around the dinner table this Thanksgiving, let us raise a toast not just for the turkey and stuffing, but for the laughter, the love, and the memories we create together. Make sure to capture those moments on camera because the only thing better than a good Thanksgiving dish is hearing the stories that come alive on our devices! Celebrate with joy this Thanksgiving!

To add some spice to your Thanksgiving, did you know that the tradition of Thanksgiving can be traced back to1619 when a group of settlers in Virginia held a day of thanksgiving after their harvest? And for those wondering about Thanksgiving meals, an estimated 46 million turkeys are eaten in the United States each Thanksgiving - around 70% of the population! When you think of Thanksgiving, just know you're joining in on a legacy that’s as rich as the gravy on your mashed potatoes!
