But to complain about the number of fetch quests in a D&D film would be like complaining that a movie about Scrabble features too much spelling. A plotline involving Edgin's daughter (Chloe Coleman) and his dead wife exists to up the stakes and motivate his actions in the thuddingly predictable manner of Hollywood action movies. But the movie even manages to shake off that mild complaint, given its nature. There is the world of the game, in which your characters experience epic struggles and extreme violence and suffering unto (and sometimes beyond) death, while above it, there is the world of the table, around which you and your friends sit scarfing hard sourdough pretzels and joking about how badly you're all about to get boned. (Paladins, for those unfamiliar, are the smug, preening, condescending white knights of the D&D world — a bunch of Frasier Cranes in plate mail.) Page nails the necessary hauteur and supreme confidence while layering them with a guileless sincerity that turns his character into a weapon aimed at Pine's character's every insecurity. It's the kind of role Pine was engineered in some secret subterranean Hollywood breeding facility to play: a character who not only rides the razor's edge between charm and smarm but who sets up housekeeping there. Worried you'll be bombarded with obscure references to places and characters from the game? And then, should you allow yourself a moment of reflection, it likely occurs to you how weirdly right it seems, how well that familiar approach seems uniquely attuned to the film's subject. And speaking of smarm: Hugh Grant, as a rakish rogue, is once again serving us the kind of full-bore, insufferably plummy poshness he gifted the world within Paddington 2. The lights go down, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves begins (if you're me, you at this point maybe think to yourself, "We come to this place ... for Magic Missile"), and sure enough, there it is, manifesting right there in the opening seconds of the very first scene: that same, predictable, inescapable approach. It's a formula, a ritual, an attempt to dispel the grim specter of Cringe.

'Dungeons and Dragons' Box Office: $5.6 Million in Previews (Variety)

After rolling for initiative, it will prepare for combat against “John Wick: Chapter 4,” last weekend's box office champion — and it'll be a close battle.

“Dungeons and Dragons” should finish the month on a strong note. (For the uninitiated, these are all classes that real-life Dungeons and Dragons players can use to create their personalized characters.) The party of thieves turned heroes must band together to defeat an evil Red Wizard and save Edgin’s daughter (Chloe Coleman). After rolling for initiative, it will prepare for combat against “John Wick: Chapter 4,” last weekend’s box office champion — and it’ll be a close battle.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023) Movie Review ... (The Review Geek)

Overall, Honor Among Thieves is a thoroughly enjoyable adventure fantasy film suitable for most ages, with some memorable laugh-out-loud moments.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves really is that good. The sense of adventure that comes with quest-seeking, along with the humor, also gives it a little bit of a Princess Bride feel. With the exception of some embellished father-daughter drama, Honor Among Thieves really does feel like a Dungeons & Dragons game come to life.

In Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the actor offers all of his charisma and personality to Edgin, a simple bard trying to correct the mistakes of the past. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is one of the best fantasy films from the past few years. Yes, it's predictable and the entire second act revolves around a full-on MacGuffin that turns out to be completely irrelevant to the plot itself, but without the incessant search for that object, certain important scenes wouldn't have occurred and thus a particular character wouldn't end up with their full arc. All the characters are relatable and quite funny, dealing with their own arcs and narrative events with just the right amount of irony and sarcasm that fit perfectly in the light atmosphere crafted by the directors. Thankfully, the cast, especially Pine, manage to bring more heart to a movie that absolutely needed some genuine emotion. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has so much going for it that it's hard to choose where to start, but the charming cast with undeniable chemistry deserve the initial acclaim because, without this group of actors & actresses, the formulaic narrative with lots of MacGuffins in the mix would have been much less interesting. There's a scene in a graveyard that I will rewatch – and ostensibly laugh at – dozens of times. The premise of this fantasy movie is divided into two parts: the first is focused on obtaining a particularly powerful object and the second is about the group invading a castle and rescuing Kira (Chloe Coleman), the daughter of the protagonist, a bard named Edgin (Chris Pine). Curiously, it's the more experienced Hugh Grant who doesn't fare as well in this one as Forge Fitzwilliam, a greedy con artist aided by Sofina (Daisy Head), a very powerful and deceptive wizard. Honor Among Thieves is, above all, a comedy that induces never-ending laughter from the audience in a full theater, something that, frankly, I haven't experienced in some time. I'm familiar with the concept and structure of the game itself, but I've never participated in any campaigns. With incredibly iconic franchises like The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, everything that involves fantastical, imaginative adventures captivates me in a special manner.

Commonly referred to as D&D, Dungeons & Dragons is a tabletop fantasy role-playing game that was first released in 1974. While Marvel usually used this time to tease what was coming next in future films, the Dungeons & Dragons mid-credits scene is just a pay-off to a joke that was introduced earlier in the movie. There’s only one and it’s a mid-credits scene which means you won’t have to stick around for the whole credits to roll. If you want to know whether you need to hang around in the cinema after the movie ends (or stay glued to your sofa, for that matter). It’s a trend started by the Marvel Cinematic Universe but has trickled down through almost every action-adventure film in Hollywood.

Box Office: Dungeons & Dragons Makes $5.6M In Previews (Deadline)

Saturday AM: Refresh for more updates and chart Though Friday was $15.3M, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is still looking at a $40M opening.

Watch the trailer below: D&D gains a majority of the premium venues from Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4 this weekend. At the high-end, it’s a hopeful $65M global start. The hope by all is that the pic overindexes this weekend, but it might be a slow burn for the film; it’s the only new live-action PG-13 fanboy choice heading into the Easter frame next weekend. Pic’s best regions were the East and the South, with seven of the top ten theaters coming out of NYC. Elsewhere, Angel Studios had the faith-based His Only Son opening at 1,920 theaters, with an estimated $2.1M Friday and an estimated $5.5M opening. Let’s wait and see what the multiple is on this John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein directed/written movie. D&D was on a roll in the West, Mountain, and Midwest, but had solid numbers throughout the country. Imax and PLFs are driving 36% of the weekend ticket sales to date for D&D. The scores here are fantastic for D&D, with an A- CinemaScore (better than Uncharted‘s B+), 90% , 4 1/2 stars on ComScore/Screen Engine PostTrak, with a 77% recommend. Though not the most bedazzling start for a movie of that size, we need to remember the pandemic comp of Sony’s Uncharted, which cost $120M, opened to $44M, finaled at $148.6M U.S./Canada and did $401.7M worldwide. Hasbro controlled the IP, brought Paramount the movie, and agreed on the terms of financing at 50%.
