As a man, he's a man just like I am, he bleeds just like I do so I have the confidence that I can pull this victory out. "It was a messed up fight so I've just been in the gym working, waiting. But I've just been working, I got home and got right back in the gym [after the Whyte fight]. The showdown will begin at around 7pm on domestic shores with an undercard set to preceed the headlining attraction. When you step in the ring with me, it's another. I like making money, straight up this is a prize-fighting sport." Joshua's showdown with Franklin will be his first fight live exclusively on streaming service DAZN in the UK since departing traditional broadcaster Sky Sports. "So it was just back to the drawing board for me, trying to get back in shape and look for different aspects, different ways to attack, different points to my game and just overall improvement. If you doubt yourself you're in the wrong sport. It can also be caught on multiple devices including laptop, smart TV and through the mobile app. Franklin: "I've always been confident in myself," Franklin said. Joshua's showdown with Franklin will take place at London's O2 arena tonight.

Anthony Joshua remains one of the biggest names in boxing, with the British star starting his 'New Dawn' against Jermaine Franklin on Saturday.

However, this has not prevented the pair from enjoying vastly successful careers, with both being among the biggest names in British sport. Both have fought in huge contests on both sides of the Atlantic, with sell-out crowds at Wembley for both fighters. Anthony Joshua returns to the ring tonight against American Jermaine Franklin, in what is a decisive contest for his future heavyweight plans.

But having lost successive bouts to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022 and once again lost his championship belts, Joshua has been at somewhat of a career crossroads. I am going to be laughing and loving life." Family is very important to AJ and he has a special relationship with his mother Yeta. If people want me to retire I will retire," he said. “Negotiations at this level take time, so I am pleased to have it all wrapped up and now I can fully focus on giving the fans and DAZN what they want – knockouts in the glamour division. Speaking of holidays, AJ very much enjoys jetting abroad to relax and recharge his batteries. I’m not like that at home - and I’m not even like that when I go out, really." “I’ve been working with DAZN and following its progress for a long time. I’m not a superstar and he doesn’t think so either. The former world heavyweight champion is gearing up for a crunch fight against Jermaine Franklin this weekend, and claimed he will retire from the sport if he fails to win his first bout since December 2020. Due to another high-profile endorsement with Beats by Dre which began in 2017, Joshua also has free use of a helicopter. Most of AJ’s net worth is made up with his mega endorsement deals, one of which is with Jaguar Land Rover.

This weekend Joshua returns to his old stomping ground on the Greenwich Peninsula after seven years away to do battle with Jermaine Franklin.

Who would have envisaged that, after beating Alexander Povetkin at Wembley in September 2018, over the next four-and-a-half years he would rack up only another two wins, before letting his heavyweight crown slip and struggling to sell out the O2. Nevertheless, throwing his toys out of the pram in such a manner after two clear defeats has only brought further detractors. As a result, his unwanted O2 comeback has not provided the kind of ticket frenzy AJ and promoter Eddie Hearn are used to. Only two victories have come from his previous five contests, with Andy Ruiz Jr the first to expose his deficiencies in startling fashion on that dramatic June night at Madison Square Garden four years ago. Anthony Joshua heads back to the O2 this weekend with his star power waning, tickets selling slowly and RETIREMENT a possibility... Despite Breazeale's obscurity, tickets for the fight sold out in just 30 minutes as fans clamoured for a glimpse of Britain's new superstar heavyweight in the flesh.

Anthony Joshua returns to the ring today hoping to get his career back on track with a victory over the American Jermaine Franklin in London.

But Franklin held his own against Whyte, the former WBC interim heavyweight champion, and was perhaps unfortunate to lose the contest, with two judges scoring it 116-112 in the Brit’s favour, with it level on the third card. It is a massive night for 33-year-old Joshua. In the United Kingdom the fight will be shown live on American streaming platform DAZN. That led him to Jermaine Franklin — and Joshua’s first bout without at least one world title on the line in almost seven years. “No I haven't seen them yet,” he said on Friday when asked about his family. •3h ago I just follow the process.” “I know I’ve got the possibility of doing it. From Anthony Joshua to one-punch KO artist Gervonta Davis ... (talkSPORT.com)

April's Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia showdown sees two of boxing's most dangerous punchers face off, but who wears the crown for the hardest poun.

‘King Artur’, the poker-faced, black-bearded Russian is a horrible combination of natural power, suffocating pressure and great amateur skills meaning he has every punch in the book. Lost his biggest test by decision to Ilunga Makabu and there aren’t enough elite names on Papin’s record to say if his power is for real (yet). One of boxing’s most exciting rising stars with a record to match, 25-year-old Ortiz Jr has an action-packed style and pinpoint punching skills. Lucky to get a final-minute referee stoppage in his step-up fight against Viktor Postol, but the 100 per cent KO streak is a fun story for the prospect. “Either I’m going to knock you out, or you are going to knock me out,” is the mantra of Puerto Rican 140lb slugger Matias. In his past 14 fights, only one boxer has gone the distance with Japan’s ‘Monster’: Nonito Donaire, who was demolished in five minutes in a rematch. Still, ‘Boots’ boasts every punch in the book, able to overwhelm opponents with his varied arsenal. At age 37 and an ex-world champion, Dorticos’ peak years are behind him – but has still scored KO2s in his past two fights. The Londoner lost world title challenges to a pair of elite Russians, but shook both with his thunderous hooks. Throws shots with bad intentions and the chiselled super-middleweight scored a KO of the year contender against Nadjib Mohammedi in 2022. At his best, ‘Triple G’ went on a 23-KO middleweight streak and was the most feared hitter in boxing. Brit showed his power in the amateurs, scoring TKOs on his way to an Olympic bronze medal in 2016.

It also derailed the possibility of a showdown with fellow Englishman Tyson Fury to crown an undisputed champion in a fight that would have done incredible business as the biggest showdown in English boxing history. Ultimately, Whyte took a mildly-controversial majority decision, though Franklin proved he could hang with one of the better heavyweights in the world. Joshua entered the rematch as an underdog for the first time in his career. Joshua was able to dominate the rematch with Ruiz, winning back his titles in the process, and followed that up with a knockout win over Kubrat Pulev before facing off with former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. in June 2019 and the first sign that the wheels were starting to come off the Joshua wagon. AJ's Fury: Nigerians root for a great Anthony Joshua comeback ... (The Punch)

I drove past Sagamu, the ancestral home of the global boxing sensation, Anthony Joshua, last night. Honking my way through the rowdy and bustling traffic ...

From Mohammad Ali to the forever incomparable Mike Tyson, to Evander Holifield, to Lenox Lewis, to Tyson Fury, the reigning WBC world heavyweight champion, boxing greats have had monsters in or out of the ring that seemingly put paid to their career but against which monstrous determination and faith in self prevailed to roaring success. In one night, and in a stupefying haul of glory, a valiant Anthony Joshua had three World Heavy Weight golden belts strapped to his heaving chest – IBF, WBA & WBO world heavyweight championship belts – to forever seal his name and Nigeria’s in the world’s book of boxing athletics. Should Joshua reach deep down tonight and find his lethal weapons again, even the forever taunting WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury may soon find his hide being asked for by a newly assertive Anthony Joshua. In the euphoria of Joshua’s mega-celebrity, few now remember that Joshua as a precocious young boxer with authentic Nigerian blood in his veins, had excitedly approached leaders of the Nigerian Olympic delegation earlier that year, in hope of finding a spot on the Nigerian team. Eddie Hearn, the boss of the UK’s leading boxing promotion firm, Matchroom Boxing, and Joshua’s indefatigable promoter, has shown incredible steadiness and empathy as his stable’s prized signee endured an atypical breach of his mental and emotional fortitude. Eddie, studiously leveraging the promotional talk show route in the lead-up to the Joshua-Franklin fight, had spoken with renewed faith about the austere atmosphere in Dallas where Derrick had had the onerous task of deconstructing his mega star student.

He continued to fire in punches and, with nothing coming back from the American, referee Howard Foster stopped it at 0-25 of the round. This was the third fight in succession in which Joshua has had a new team in his corner. But Calleros, undaunted, pushed forward and traded punches with Yafai in the second and third. Franklin snuck his right in again before the close of the session. Still only 4-0 (3), every fight Yafai has taken has been set for 10 rounds and he was taken that full distance in his last outing, winning the others by knockout. While it came by a wide unanimous points decision, Joshua had still secured the victory he needed. Franklin's corner rushed at Joshua as the two fighters had to be separated. He stepped back smartly as well from Franklin's darting shots in the first round. The grim set to Joshua's expression once he stepped into the ring was perhaps an indication of that pressure. In recent years Joshua has tended to fill out entire stadiums when he's boxed in the UK. A third consecutive loss, for a star of Joshua's calibre, would have left his further aspirations in tatters. Anthony Joshua taken the distance but beats Jermaine Franklin on ... (The Guardian)

Anthony Joshua was forced to go 12 rounds against the 29-year-old American before winning a unanimous points decision at the O2 Arena.

A more likely path for Joshua would be to next face Whyte, whom he has beaten before, and to build towards a far more difficult defining test much later in the year. Fighting broke out again briefly after the final bell, before they were separated, in a sign that Joshua harboured some frustration at his failure to close the show in clinical style. Three big right hands from Joshua hurt Franklin in blurring succession and it looked as if he was readying himself for a concussive finish. He had won the round but Joshua’s nose began to bleed and needed a little attention from his corner. But the American looked less comfortable when Joshua nailed him with a heavy right hand and then, later in the round, went to the body with thudding blows. Anthony Joshua won his first fight in more than two years with a comprehensive points victory over a brave and resilient Jermaine Franklin.

Anthony Joshua got the win, but did he make a statement? (ESPN)

LONDON -- So much of Saturday's fight was about starting a new chapter for former heavyweight unified champion Anthony Joshua.

Joshua ended his in-ring speech by calling out his British counterpart, Fury, with whom he engaged in talks for a fight in December but fell apart. Tonight he also was without the pressure of a world title on the line, a fact he said in the build-up had been a weight off his large shoulders. Joshua's trademark during those hungry years had become his devastating straight right, and at the heaviest weight of his career (255.4 pounds) it was expected he would look to inflict damage on Saturday. Even his promoter, Eddie Hearn, admitted Joshua was "solid but not spectacular." This fight against Jermaine Franklin, therefore, was about resurrection -- a chance to rebuild his image and, more importantly, get back in the win column. This arena was where he made his pro debut and the stage when he won his first world title.

The British fighter was effective with his jab, but he did not throw the devastating straight right he used to dominate the division for years.

Joshua added: “The ball is in his court. Saturday’s bout was billed as the start of a “new dawn” for the former heavyweight champion. Franklin was quick to dodge many of Joshua’s punches, and even looked to inflict damage himself with an aggressive flurry of punches at the end of Round 4. “I know who the fans want. Both boxers are without mandatory fight obligations, although previous talks over a proposed bout last December ended amid a flurry of deadlines and gibes. Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) had suffered defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in his two previous fights and had not won since he knocked out Kubrat Pulev in December 2020.
