Four first-half goal courtesy of a Demi Edwards hat-trick and a close-range Kirsty Matthews strike saw the Bees come away with the 4-0 win. “A lot of things went against us during the game but we need to get used to this and make sure we focus on the things we can control.” “I have a huge amount of belief in this group and I know when they are at it they are one of the best teams in the league but we just need to keep picking up results.”

In conversation with Tony Yogane (Brentford FC)

The 17-year-old linked up with the young Bees from the Owls alongside Isaac Holland and has made 26 appearances so far this season for Neil MacFarlane's team.

It’s going to be a good game against a tough team, but every game is tough and you never know what to expect. The likes of Ulsan Hyundai, AIK Fotboll and Halmstads BK all provided brilliant challenges for the young players out in the Algarve which Tony was pleased to take on. I tried to stay on the last line and in my head I’m thinking that nothing is going to happen for me because they’re sat back. “The Atlantic Cup, against the first team (Ulsan Hyundai) they just kept passing and passing and my quads were done,” smiled Tony. As well as support each other on the pitch, they also like to analyse their games and learn together. When you play for Brentford, you’ve got to run a lot and work hard for the team.” It helps a lot knowing that you can go into the game knowing you can trust the players. To find out what he thinks that I could have done or what I think Isaac could have done. You have to focus on the future and I’m the only person that can make it happen.” You have to take it on the chin. Off target, out of 20 shots there would maybe be seven on target with no goals, but you can see a big difference from the start of the season to now where I’ve done the techniques over and over again. “I was surprised (in pre-season.) Gilbz’s finishing is a joke, and we have some really good players like Trev and Tristan.

“We need to be ruthless in both boxes making sure we’re putting the ball in the back of the net and making sure we’re defending for our lives. “There was a really good focus from the team today, the warm-up was good and we started the game well, we didn’t start the second half that well but the reaction was good. “It was important (to get off to a quick start) I think we set the tone in our shape and our press from minute one, Leatherhead are a good team with good players who wanted to try and play so we needed to stop that, which we did. The referee was left with no choice but to point to the spot and Matthews stepped up and confidently placed the ball into the bottom right corner, getting her second of the day. In the final 15 minutes of the first half, Leatherhead began to grow into the game and had a good chance just after the half-hour mark to pull a goal back, but Emily Boycott did well to deny Cassie Brown’s close-range shot. The host’s looked the more dominant side in the early stages of the game with Logie nearly getting in behind the Leatherhead defence on a couple of occasions.
