It has now been described as a “ [code red for humanity.](https://swachhindia.ndtv.com/global-warming-india-must-get-its-act-together-now-warn-environmentalists-predicting-extreme-climates-26454/)” The campaign will continue to cover issues like [air pollution](https://swachhindia.ndtv.com/category/air-pollution/), [waste management](https://swachhindia.ndtv.com/category/waste-management/), [plastic ban](https://swachhindia.ndtv.com/category/plastic-ban/), [manual scavenging](https://swachhindia.ndtv.com/tag/manual-scavenging/) and sanitation workers and [menstrual hygiene](https://swachhindia.ndtv.com/category/menstrual-hygiene/). The government is a magnificent machine and has huge machinery, but I have found that there is a trust deficit between the rural community and the government, and the involvement of non-profit organisations can help bridge that gap. We need to understand that all of us have a role to play in solving the problems of poverty, health, sanitation, and education, among others. So you can imagine that the health, dignity, and safety of a woman are compromised due to the lack of a toilet facility at home. There was a study done by the NGO Dasara in 2019, according to which nearly 23 million girls drop out of school annually in India due to a lack of proper sanitation and hygiene management facilities in schools, which include the availability of sanitary pads and information about menstruation. It is important to include the men to allow the women to blossom, and we have done it in the last ten years through our ‘Swades Mitra’ programme. The woman and the eldest girl child of the house, who may have dropped out of school to help the mother. Zarina Screwvala: Besides empowerment, which is the essence and key, the lack of water and sanitation also creates a tremendous amount of gender inequality. Zarina Screwvala: The concept of equality starts in the mind, and so we need to work at the grassroot level of empowering men and women to set their mindsets towards equality and see themselves as leaders of the change. Our reach now is three quarters of a million people, and our idea is to create a model of development that is replicable and sustainable. We must understand that sanitation, education, and health are all connected and result in the empowerment of not just women but every gender. Screwvala shared how Swades has worked towards the upliftment of women and girls through their various programmes such as Swades Mitra and the scholarship programme among others.

In conclusion, gender equality is a fundamental human right and necessary for a sustainable future. Inclusive policies, regulations, and procedures should be in place to eradicate gender disparities and ensure a sustainable and equal future for all. Violence against women is prevalent globally, and most women are subjected to violence by their intimate partners. Gender equality is, therefore, essential in reducing the poverty rate, providing children with a healthy environment, and enabling women to take better care of themselves and their dependents. Gender equality is a fundamental human right, and discrimination of any kind goes against human rights. For a sustainable future, gender equality is necessary because half of the world’s population comprises women, who are often excluded from contributing to society due to gender disparities.

In 1996 the UN announced the first annual theme for International Women’s Day, which was designed to shed light on a specific part of the experiences of women each year. This trend threatens to alienate women from one of the fastest-growing sectors and could deprive the industry of valuable expertise. The four-day strike eventually ended with the Czar forced to abdicate and the government that stepped in granted women the right to vote for the first time. In the Gregorian calendar that translated to 8 March, and that became the date that would become synonymous with International Women’s Day in future. At around the same time a similar movement was gaining traction in Russia with an annual celebration of women’s achievement. The global celebration takes place on 8 March every year, reportedly to commemorate a protest by women garment workers in New York.

We firmly believe that a diverse workforce is essential for driving innovation and growth, and we are proud to accelerate the recruitment of women at all levels and promote them to higher levels of responsibility. It is imperative that the global STEM ecosystem step up and provide women and girls with innovative upskilling opportunities and technology-based education, starting from the grassroots, to unlock a sustainable future for the planet and humankind. While our quest of creating a diverse, equal, and inclusive world will take time, what we can collectively do today and each following day is to sow the seeds of change that will bear fruit in the future. For this to be a reality, younger women must be educated and provided with the right skillsets. In fact, our efforts have been recognized by Avtar The Power of Diversity and Seramount, as we have been named one of the ‘100 Best Companies for Women in India’ for the fourth consecutive year. We are now creating new opportunities for women to break down barriers and succeed in their careers by creating more flexible and inclusive work environments. At Aeris Communications, we strive to place women in the forefront of our work and maintain a balanced mix of women and men in our workforce. We are looking at skills required for a role in an environment where organizations are looking at fungibility of resources and building capabilities. Through our ‘Women in IoT’ platform, we aim to demonstrate the importance of personal style and confidence for women in business. At CBM India Trust, our mission is to champion the voices of the underprivileged, and we believe empowering women is key to achieving that goal. Women have always been capable of everything, and we hope to see more women taking up the space they deserve in 2023 and beyond.’’ There is a need to retain women who are already in technology, attract more girls to STEM and sustain their interest.

Yet it is not hard to imagine how a stronger, more coordinated women centered architecture in the UN could achieve and produce more while spending less. As per now, its outreach and voice are limited within the development sector and it has become almost irrelevant and unknown to the global public opinion. He writes on volunteerism, social inclusion, youth development and regional integration as an engine to improve people's lives A recently created multi partnership forum could, potentially, become such main vehicle to achieve SDG 5. The Commission and all other women focused mechanisms and programs, at minimum, could become part of a much larger and more institutionalized institution that should also be fully aligned to and possibly become the central pillar for SDG 5 of The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. It is evident that in both domains, on the one hand, the human rights accountability mechanisms and on the other hand, the actions and programs on the ground to change the status quo, there is need of a much stronger synergy and coordination, something that might be objected by several members of the UN that are unlikely to support anything akin to strengthen mechanisms upholding human rights. We have not yet discussed the "program" side of the equation, the work to prevent violence and discrimination against women and promote their empowerment being done by UN agencies and programs, including UN Women the agency that provides the secretariat of the Commission on the Status of Women. Reem Alsalem, who started her tenure on August 2021. Let's also bear in mind that in matter of women's rights, there is also the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women that should be considered as the guardian of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women known as CEDAW. Officially started in 2017, the platform aims to "promote thematic and institutional cooperation between the UN and regional expert mechanisms on the elimination of discrimination and violence against women and girls with the view of accelerating domestication of international and regional standards, achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls". One of the reasons is that the UN human rights architecture promoting and defending the rights of women is too complex and fragmented and requires a drastic overhaul. Though the former mechanism is focused on fighting discrimination and the latter is instead exclusively aimed at assessing cases of violence against women, you might wonder if it could be more effective and value for money to devise a more united approach, a more effective modality to monitor and defend the rights of women around the world.

We need to encourage and support such dedication. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I urge all stakeholders—from governments and partners to civil society and citizens—to support country-driven and gender-sensitive approaches to close the existing digital gender divide. According to a 2021 report by the Association of Mobile Operators, inadequate infrastructure, lack of digital skills for the internet and ICTs, and gender-related barriers around access to and control over resources are the main obstacles to “meaningful connectivity” for women and girls. By doing these, we will ensure that disadvantaged and vulnerable women and girls also benefit equitably from digital and technological innovations for their improved health and well-being. Advocating for policies and legal frameworks to keep women and girls safe. I’m glad to see the enthusiastic scale-up of ICT-based innovation deployed to fight COVID-19 and other diseases in the region. We have seen that women can be innovators and contribute to transforming the health of all people on the continent. Nevertheless, we must do more to remove the digital gender divide, mainly impacting vulnerable women and girls, especially those in rural and remote areas with low education and socioeconomic status. This year’s theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlights the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls. Efforts at innovation have facilitated improved access to quality health care services and encouraged the participation of individuals, families, and community stakeholders in health care, especially during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Globally, the increasing number and use of mobile phones and internet connectivity have facilitated access to health information and services. I am delighted to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day with you in recognition of women and girls championing the advancement of transformative digital technology.

"I wasn't bought up with football, but if I had gone to a game on my own, I would feel quite intimidated. "I don't see a difference between working in football and working anywhere else. At times, you feel like 'what support have I got?' To know that you've got all these women who have got your back that work in football, it was mind-blowing to me. I have some great women who work in football and after the boardroom incident, various women were messaging me and that meant the world to me. That probably helped because people didn't think I would do something like that and I never planned to and it's not me, I'm a very respectful person. "Everyone works with me on it, from The Valley staff to the training ground, the players. "I’ve had to adjust to my son playing in the first team. It's very easy to put your blinkers on and do your job, but I'm not like that - I'm heart and soul. "It's more about having someone they can trust and come to if they have any issues, which is important as well. A position then opened up at the club, so I came in for an interview and I've been here over eight years now. "I wouldn't say my interest in football really kicked in until I started to work here and, even then, matchdays weren't part of my job. I didn't really watch him play because I was always working, my job was busy on a Saturday so I rarely got to go, but we went out in the evenings with friends from football.
