Rangers vs Kilmarnock – LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

Michael Beale expects a response and his players know they must find one against Derek McInnes' side.

The defender nodded the ball past Allan McGregor who couldn't get a hand to hit. After a tough week, an early goal was just what Rangers needed to settle any anxiety after the disappointment suffered in the loss to [Celtic](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/celtic-fc) at the national stadium. Collum was quick to flash the yellow. Rangers are definitely showing a bit of complacency in this second 45 and Kilmarnock will feel their goal is deserved. On the stroke of half-time Willie Collum was sent to the VAR screen to check on a possible penalty. [Connor Goldson](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/connor-goldson) and Fashion Sakala before a James Tavernier penalty on the stroke of half-time was rich reward after a dominant first half showing. His efforts were summed up when he sprinted full pelt to catch a loose ball and save his side conceding a goal kick as well as showing his trademark tidy neat and tidy passing. Overall there's still a lot of positives to take for Michael Beale. James Tavernier gave Walker no chance in the Killie goal with the pen to make it 3-0 at the break. Derek McInnes wanted a reaction and got one through Jeriel Dorsett who pulled one back for the Rugby Park men on the 60th minute. Fashion Sakala doubled the lead for the Ibrox side in the 25th minute after he linked up with Antonio Colak in the 18-yard box. Ange Postecoglou’s [Celtic](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/celtic-fc) will now go to St Mirren on Sunday lunchtime as they look to regain their nine-point lead at the summit.

Rangers 3 Kilmarnock 1: Fans send Ibrox board message in league ... (HeraldScotland)

RANGERS continued their unbeaten Premiership run to reduce the deficit to Celtic to six points in the title race with victory over Kilmarnock.

The visitors had to strike again quickly if they were going to produce a remarkable fightback and time was soon against them. Rangers played with more purpose from the off and they carried more of a threat. The longer Killie kept it goalless, the greater chance they had of ending their wretched record on the road this term. The position of chairman Douglas Park continues to divide It is fair to say that many didn’t agree with their manager’s calls before or during the game or his justifications for them afterwards. When Tavernier fired home from the spot with just seconds of the half remaining, that was that for Rangers. The other three that dropped out – John Lundstram, Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos – could have no complaints. Quite how Beale’s side could be so commanding and then so nervous either side of the interval is a mystery. It was a case of job done for Rangers. It was a strange afternoon in many ways. Rangers owed the Ibrox crowd an apology and a performance. Goldson made the decisive intervention to set Beale’s side on their way.

There was a shout for a penalty when Allan McGregor clattered into Rory McKenzie but it was a portent of what was to come. Inevitably, it was a stay of execution. For Derek McInnes’ side it was indicative of a season in which they have been undone by a succession of similar cheap goals.

Once Odorizzi exercised his player option for 2023, the Braves wanted to get rid of him, and so they sent Odorizzi and $10 million to Texas for Kolby Allard this winter. Texas was reportedly looking to fortify their bullpen in the offseason, but never ended up adding a reliever on a major league deal, unless one counts Odorizzi, who would seem to be slated to be a long man and spot starter if everyone in the rotation is healthy. Smith signed a three year, $39 million deal with the Braves after the 2019 season, but wasn’t terribly good for them in that time, which is why they foisted him and the remainder of his deal off on Houston last summer. Scottish Premiership: Tavernier seals Rangers win over Kilmarnock (The Guardian)

Connor Goldson was on target as Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-1 and reduced Celtic's advantage to six points.

The hosts ended the match with nine men as the unfortunate Omeonga then suffered an injury after Livingston had used all their subs and Hibs rounded off the win with literally the last kick off the game as Mykola Kukharevych tapped in. Livingston were reduced to 10 men early in the second period as Jack Fitzwater was dismissed for bringing down Matthew Hoppe before Chris Cadden’s pass deflected in off Stephane Omeonga to make the scoreline comfortable for the visitors. Josh Ginnelly scored two as Hearts tightened their grip on third spot in the Premiership with a 3-0 home win over St Johnstone.

Rangers sign veteran closer Will Smith to 1-year deal (MLB.com)

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Rangers made major upgrades to their starting rotation this offseason. Saturday, they turned their attention to the bullpen.

He wants to be the guy who is trying to help this team win a ballgame. He’s a guy who has done a lot of great things in the game. He’s a winner. He’s a great teammate. “We have talked about Will for a while,” Bochy said. Smith, 33, blossomed as a closer under Bochy, recording 14 saves after moving to the ninth-inning role in June 2018. He had a career-high 37 saves for Atlanta in 2021 and closed a Major League-high 60 games. [José Leclerc](https://www.mlb.com/player/600917) appeared to be the top closer candidate entering camp after going 0-3 with seven saves and a 2.83 ERA following his June return from Tommy John surgery. He wants to be the guy out there, trust me. “I think you see a guy who is going to be used late in the game in situations,” Bochy said. Sometimes it doesn’t go his way, but he can live with it and he answers the questions of why he didn’t do it.” Saturday, they turned their attention to the bullpen.
