ANALYSIS: NigeriaDecides2023: Reviewing INEC's preparation for ... (Premium Times)

With over 90 million registered voters, Nigeria has more registered voters than its West African neighbours put together.

At the end of the voting process and the counting of results in each polling unit, the BVAS will be used to take the snapshot of the result sheet, as signed by all agents of political parties present, and uploaded directly to the IReV portal. When the INEC Chairman addressed the Federal Executive Council and the Council of State, he reaffirmed that the elections would be held as scheduled. INEC and Mr Adeleke have, however, appealed the ruling. Good journalism costs a lot of money. This, INEC believes, would increase the transparency of the elections. In locations where the NNPC does not have a filling station, it would partner with other filling stations to provide the products, Mr Kyari added. Election duty staff and materials must be at their polling units before the time scheduled for voting, he told them. Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai alleged that a cabal in the presidency was plotting to scuttle the elections and install an interim national government. But these technologies appear to not be without their own challenges. The machine uploads the total number of accredited voters to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) which can be accessed in real-time by anyone anywhere in the world. Almost 60 attacks have been carried out on the facilities of the electoral commission, INEC, in the last four years. With over 90 million registered voters and over 23,000 election duty staff, Nigeria’s election is a big endeavour.

Will INEC pass this litmus test? (Vanguard)

DESPITE several attacks on its facilities in some parts of the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will not be deterred ...

Though that was never proved in the Osun election, despite the use of the celebrated BVAS, there was still over-voting. I also call on the security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies to arrest, investigate and prosecute anyone involved in violent conduct, including incendiary statements capable of inciting a breach of the peace.” They range from one polling unit to 12 polling units in each state and the FCT, except Taraba and Imo states with 34 and 38 polling units respectively. Concerns have been raised as to whether or not the new technology could be hacked. “At previous meetings, we also briefed you on our efforts to redistribute voters to the polling units to avoid the congestion that made voting cumbersome in many of them nationwide. No new registrants chose the polling units and no voters indicated interest to transfer to them during the last Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, mainly for security reasons. Yakubu, who spoke at a meeting with leaders of political parties, said: “You may recall that in 2021, with your support and that of other critical stakeholders, the Commission successfully expanded voter access to polling units 25 years after the last delimitation exercise in 1996. This requires the redistribution of voters to new polling units in proximate locations. We saw it in the State of Texas in the USA during its last elections where Dominion, the company that produced the voting machines was accused of colluding to rig the elections. “When the electorates go to the polling booth and they are not sure that the person they voted for will be the winner but that the election will be decided by a panel of three or five people, it will erode the electoral system. So, how did we arrive at over-voting when there was BVAS? Already, the commission has declared that elections will not hold in 240 polling units spread across 28 states.
