Liverpool's bright future keeps Everton in relegation zone (ESPN)

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez looked particularly good as Liverpool's first league win of 2023 keeps Everton sweating over their top-flight future.

No lack of effort or work ethic, it's still tough coming here, but [Liverpool] are a great side." With Nunez making one goal and Gakpo scoring another, though, this was a good night for two of Liverpool's big hopes for the future. Hopefully it was a start." For Liverpool, that is all about finding the form to make a late charge up the table to seal a top-four finish and The absence of centre-forward If Liverpool and Everton are to save their seasons, though, both need to be better than they were at Anfield in this game. While the win boosted Liverpool's faint hopes of finishing in the top four, the defeat left Everton in the relegation zone ahead of their crucial clash against Leeds United on Saturday.

Liverpool call for Uefa action after report on final (BBC Sport)

Liverpool call on Uefa to "fully and transparently" implement the recommendations made in an independent report on the events before last season's Champions ...

This was a 'near miss' of a much more fatal situation. "Lessons must be learnt. "What should have been the highlight of the season for travelling supporters of Liverpool and Real Madrid - in Uefa's words a 'festival of football' - turned out to be a maelstrom of chaos and alarm that led to some fans fearing for their life," the group said. Uefa and French authorities initially blamed ticketless Liverpool fans for the events, but the report - released on Monday - said there was "no evidence" to support the "reprehensible" claims. The club added the "fundamental safety failings" had "exacerbated the suffering" of the families, friends and survivors of Hillsborough. Liverpool want Uefa to "fully and transparently" fulfil recommendations made in an independent report on the events before last season's Champions League final in Paris.

UCL preview: Liverpool out for revenge against Madrid as PSG ... (TheCable)

The UEFA Champions League (UCL) has resumed from its lengthy break. A lot has changed across the football world since its spine-tingling.

Eintracht Frankfurt might be a worthy test, but Napoli have the momentum and talent to edge it. Unlike previous seasons in recent years, the competition fangled assortments of clash of the titans from its second round. Jurgen Klopp’s side is currently going through a rough patch of form that dropped them far away from the EPL top four than expected. Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke have only shown sparkles, but none has ignited the fire that can shake Chelsea out of their blues. Manchester City are currently under investigation for financial anomalies that could end in expulsion from the English Premier League (EPL). The UEFA Champions League (UCL) has resumed from its lengthy break.

Liverpool demand UEFA implement Champions League final ... (Sky Sports)

Champions League final on May 28, 2022 between Liverpool and Real Madrid at Stade de France was overshadowed by serious problems for supporters outside; ...

Their incompetence and negligence could have led to a far more serious situation had it not been for the restraint of the Liverpool supporters who know all about the history of what happened at Hillsborough in 1989. The real number of counterfeit Liverpool tickets turned out to be 1,600 - which is no more than usually expected for a game of that size. "It is now obvious that three months was not enough time to organise a Champions League final. Dr Rodrigues said last year in a UEFA statement: "The events of 28 May were distressing for everyone involved. The independent French Senate report published in July 2022 found Liverpool supporters were unfairly and wrongly blamed for the chaotic scenes to divert attention from the real organisational failures. But even more concerning is the realisation that for families, friends and survivors of Hillsborough, Paris has only exacerbated their suffering." The FFF didn't respond to messages for comment through email and its media website on Monday. UEFA as event owner has been assigned "primary responsibility" but it's understood some commission members disagreed with the conclusion. "And they should apologise and thank Liverpool supporters for the way they behaved." "Although the French police were out in force before the game, they were nowhere to be seen when supporters were being mugged and attacked as they were leaving the game. "A Champions League final should be a celebration of football but in Paris it turned into a nightmare for tens of thousands of supporters because of failures on the part of the people who were supposed to be looking after them. "What happened on 28 May 2022 was the fault of UEFA, the French authorities and the French police.

Liverpool slam 'false narratives' as club implores UEFA to act upon ... (Goal.com)

Liverpool have urged UEFA to implement the recommendations made by the independent report into the chaos at last year's Champions League final.

Our thoughts go out to all our fans who have suffered as a result of Paris and we would remind them of the mental health support we put in place in the days following the disaster that was the UEFA Champions League final in Paris. Tiago Brandao Rodrigues, found that UEFA and the French authorities must take "primary responsibility" for the chaos, which could have led to the event becoming a "mass fatality catastrophe". The independent French Senate report published in July 2022 found Liverpool supporters were unfairly and wrongly blamed for the chaotic scenes to divert attention from the real organisational failures.

Liverpool 2-0 Everton: Mohamed Salah ends drought as Reds win ... (Eurosport.com)

Liverpool relieved some of the pressure on Jurgen Klopp as they picked up a much needed 2-0 win over Everton at Anfield.

From Everton hitting the post, Liverpool clear the ball and counter attack in rapid, rapid fashion. Another clinical Liverpool counter-attack, and it results in Cody Gakpo netting his first Reds goal from a terrific Alexander-Arnold cross. What a let off for Liverpool as Alex Iwobi's corner is met by Tarkowski at the back post, and he thunders the woodwork with a header. It was his pace on the counter-attack that set up Salah’s opener, and he was unlucky not to get a goal himself, seeing one fierce shot blocked and another saved by Pickford. However, their performances recently, especially in defeat at Wolves and Brighton, have been so lacklustre and lifeless, and questions were beginning to get asked. That misfortune turned into a double blow, as the hosts counter-attacked immediately, and did so with such speed that their visitors just could not keep up.

Liverpool welcome UEFA report on Champions League final chaos (The Indian Express)

UEFA apologised to Liverpool for initially blaming the Merseyside club's fans for the mayhem following the release of the independent review on Monday.

we call on UEFA and others at the top of the football regulation pyramid to come together and take positive and transparent action to ensure there are no more ‘near misses’,” Liverpool said. “The evidence-based panel report also found that there was ‘a clear and immediate danger of a fatal crush’ and that the action of Liverpool supporters saved lives.” Liverpool welcomed a review into the 2022 Champions League final which said organisers UEFA were responsible for the chaos before the game, calling on the European soccer governing body to “take positive and transparent action” to ensure the safety of fans.

Liverpool beats Everton 2-0, Gakpo gets his first Reds goal (USA TODAY)

Cody Gakpo finally got off the mark as Liverpool beat Everton 2-0 in the 242nd Merseyside derby.

I’m a realist and I know how tough the Premier League is." I loved the atmosphere - it is an insane atmosphere people create here,” he said. Victory in the Merseyside derby is always something to savor in these parts. “All games are important, but it’s fair to say people were wondering if we would get a point from our first two games," Dyche said. We probably had 70% possession and scored from two counters, that makes it special,” Klopp said. Sitting ninth in the standings, this was a first victory in the Premier League in 2023 for Liverpool and only the second in eight games in all competitions.

Liverpool 2-0 Everton: Salah, Gakpo earn Klopp's 250th win (Premium Times)

Gakpo then became the sixth player and first after Meireles in 2011 to score a debut goal during a Merseyside derby.

Good journalism costs a lot of money. Gakpo then became the sixth player and first after Meireles in 2011 to score a debut goal during a Merseyside derby. And before the end of the first half, Nunez tried to double the lead for the Reds with a left-footed volley strike that went off target. Everton came close to taking the lead in the 35th minute when Tarkowski’ connected well to a corner kick from Iwobi but his header only rattled the crossbar. Meanwhile, in the 27th minute, Iwobi gave away a freekick to Liverpool after bringing down Robertson in the left flank but the resultant effort from Trent Alexander-Anold was saved by Pickford. New Everton manager Sean Dyche, who defeated league leaders, Arsenal, in his first game with the Toffees in the penultimate weekend, was looking ahead to another victory and the first ever for the Blues in two years at Anfield.
