The Grammys are similar to the Oscars in at least one respect this year — it's a real contest in most of, if not all of the top fields.

The winds look to favor Maneskin, Omar Apollo, Samara Joy, Anitta or Wet Leg — it may be a real photo finish between those five, though we can’t completely rule out a sixth candidate there, Muni Long. That’s almost anyone’s guess, although, among the 10 nominees, it’s easy to at least rule out the half of them that even most Grammy voters had never heard. But, speaking of “As It Was,” the sands seem to have shifted to where it’s now more widely seen as a contest between Beyoncé and Harry Styles in the three all-genre categories where all three artists are nominated — record of the year, song of the year and album of the year. That’s not to say that Adele couldn’t still pull it off in one of those three top categories or even manage a sweep; she may remain a quiet favorite, especially among the older voters who used to serve as the silent majority (and now, with efforts to diversify and young-ify the Recording Academy, may be a strong, silent minority).

And the engineers who worked on “Chloë and the Next 20th Century,” the latest album from onetime Seattleite and current Sub Pop star Father John Misty, are up for best engineered album, nonclassical. [ODESZA returned with a crystallized vision](https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/music/seattle-to-the-core-odesza-preps-for-historic-hometown-blowout-at-climate-pledge-arena/) (and eager to dance) on their first album in five years, a soulful post-lockdown release stretching from exuberant house bangers to soothing sunrise cuts. Even if Carlile’s trail-riding album cut “Broken Horses” somehow gets lost in the hodgepodge best rock song/performance categories — squaring off with cool-kid indie favorites (Turnstile, IDLES) and legacy rockers (Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers) — “In These Silent Days” should be a lock for best Americana album. The equally deserving Atlanta rapper has had more mainstream exposure in the States, thanks to a tour with Lizzo and the ubiquity of her breakout single “Big Energy.” Latto scored another weighty co-sign when Mariah Carey, who used the same sample in her ’90s hit “Fantasy,” hopped on the remix alongside DJ Khaled. (Her 28 wins are tied with Quincy Jones for the second most, trailing only the late conductor Georg Solti with 31.) If not for a pop icon’s dance-music dalliance, the Seattle indie-electronic duo’s “The Last Goodbye” would be a serious contender for best dance/electronic music album. [Zach Bryan](https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/music/review-former-wa-navy-man-zach-bryan-returns-a-bona-fide-folk-country-star/) is nowhere to be found among the otherwise solid best new artist nominees. There’s an uninspired amount of overlap in the big categories, making the always unpredictable Grammys slightly harder to call, including record of the year, which recognizes the artists, producers, engineers and others who worked on a song’s recording. Blige “Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe).” Brandi Carlile “In These Silent Days.” Coldplay “Music of the Spheres.” Kendrick Lamar “Mr. On the flip side, the generous inclusion of GAYLE’s viral alt-pop thumper feels like the Grammys saying: “See kids, we’re on TikTok, too!” The Grammys love a throwback, making Lizzo’s disco banger and Beyoncé’s dressed-to-sweat “BREAK MY SOUL” — which bridges New Orleans bounce and ’90s dance pop — strong contenders. The messiness could create a lane for Styles or our hometown hero Carlile, whose bar-raising seventh album has now yielded nominations in pop, rock and roots categories — a testament to the “folk rocker’s” creative range. “Un Verano Sin Ti” was undoubtedly the biggest blockbuster of the year, but does that hold any weight with an institution that tossed ABBA in here with a straight face?

The 65th annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on CBS. Blige's 'Good Morning Gorgeous' were all nominated for Record of the Year. Comedian Trevor Noah has been chosen to host the 65th annual Grammy Awards for the third year in a row. In fact, the list of nominees includes singers such as Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Adele and Brandi Carlile. While the main ceremony starts at 20:00 ET, arrivals to the red carpet will be streamed starting one and a half hour earlier, at 18:30 ET. Nominations for the 2023 Grammy awards were announced back on November 15.
Beyoncé and Adele will once again contend for top honors, while Lizzo and Harry Styles return and Bad Bunny makes history.
Making history in contention for 2023 album of the year is Bad Bunny, whose yearning fourth studio album "Un Verano Sin Ti" — a chart-topping sensation and critical success, which held No. Swift has now received six nominations for song of the year, although she has never won a Grammy in this particular category. [acceptance speech](https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/adele-thanks-beyonce-in-her-record-album-of-the-year-speeches/): "The artist of my life is Beyoncé. The popular track's standout success on the charts sets Latto apart from her best new artist competitors, although just two women rappers, Lauryn Hill and Megan Thee Stallion, have won in this category before. But Adele, who took home this prize for her last two studio albums, "21" and "25," is the only current contender who has won the award before. Lucius, Lacy and Styles are first-time nominees for record of the year. Morale & The Big Steppers" by Kendrick Lamar, "Special" by Lizzo and "Harry's House" by Harry Styles. Blige, "You And Me On The Rock" by Brandi Carlile featuring Lucius, "Woman" by Doja Cat, "Bad Habit" by Steve Lacy, "The Heart Part 5" by Kendrick Lamar, "About Damn Time" by Lizzo and "As It Was" by Harry Styles. Perhaps the most contentious rivalry — in this category as well as several others — will be between Adele and Beyoncé, who are again competing against each other for several awards. The Recording Academy announced its plans to increase the number of slots from eight to 10 nominees in those categories at the end of 2021. This year's nominees, all of whom are also nominated for performance awards in their respective genres, include a number of industry legends. [Beyoncé](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/beyonce-announces-renaissance-world-tour-2023/) leads [this year's nominees](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/2023-grammy-nominations/), with nine nods from the Recording Academy.
Artists like Beyoncé, Lizzo, Harry Styles, and ABBA earned nods in the Record of the Year category at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
“The Heart Part 5,” specifically, puts him in a unique position to potentially snag Record of the Year. Club](https://www.avclub.com/grammys-2023-predictions-will-win-should-win-1850066619/slides/3) notes Lizzo’s “retro-funk hook” in “About Damn Time” as a reason she could earn the Record of the Year. There are two frontrunners for Record of the Year — Adele with “Easy on Me” and Styles with “As It Was.” These nominees enjoyed the No. In 2023, the nominees for Record of the Year are “Don’t Shut Me Down” by ABBA, “Easy On Me” by Adele, “BREAK MY SOUL” by Beyoncé, “Good Morning Gorgeous” by Mary J. Both songs found success on Spotify, with “Easy on Me” at 1.2 billion plays and “As It Was” at 1.8 billion plays. This category shares similar nominees to Song of the Year.
Adele, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar and Harry Styles are up for prizes at the 65th annual Grammys in LA.
But it would be glorious to see Taylor Swift, the most consequential writer of her generation, finally win this songwriting prize, after five previous attempts. Harry Styles' As It Was should be the front-runner here. The dark horse is Brandi Carlile, a musician's musician who helped bring Joni Mitchell back to the stage last year. Beyoncé is considered the front-runner this time, but Adele has an unbeatable track record, winning all of the 13 Grammys she's been nominated for since 2012. Here's a look at the line-up. The star was challenged on TikTok to compose a break-up song using the alphabet, and replied with an early version of ABCDEFU. and that he hasn't prepared a speech. Whether it deserves a Grammy nomination is another question. This year, there are a staggering 91 categories, from best new age, ambient or chant album - shout out to Cheryl B. This year, she received another nine nominations, tying her with her husband Jay-Z for the most nods collected by any artist, with 88. Proceedings then continue for eight mind-numbing hours, until the album of the year trophy is finally presented around 04:30 GMT. Will Adele continue her winning streak?
