Brighton have the line-up that draws more attention, however. Mikel Arteta chooses his first choice left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko over Kieran Tierney as the Arsenal manager again leans on his favourite. Arsenal have an awful record here, fingers crossed they can overcome a weakened Brighton side. Oleksandr Zinchenko starts for Arsenal in their Premier League clash against Brighton at the Amex Arena. That means that Ben White continues at right-back on his return to the side where he came through as a youngster. That means youngster Amario Cozier-Duberry drops out from the matchday squad.

But with the game finely balanced, on 39 minutes we crucially managed to double our advantage and halt the home team’s momentum. football.londontakes a look back at the talking points from the Gunners 4-2 win over Brighton in the Premier League at the Amex Stadium.

He is correct in the sense that there is still so much for this Arsenal side to do. While that dangerous epidemic of hope of spreading rapidly through the fanbase, it does appear that the players are trying to keep their feet on the ground. "That means that they know that we can still player better and be better and against Newcastle we have to be better." For the first time though it did appear as though the heft of title expectations began to weigh on Arsenal. If you had predicted that at the start of the year you would undoubtedly have been carted away. [Bukayo Saka](https://www.football.london/all-about/bukayo-saka) put them a goal up inside a minute in their second threatening attack of the match. The goal got disallowed and we had much more room to win the game but you have to be prepared for that. It's easy to forget with Odegaard that he himself is still only 24, but with nearly a decade of experience in the senior game, he is proving invaluable for Arsenal as they continue to go from strength to strength. Despite the company line being that Arsenal focus only on themselves, it is understood that they were well aware of what had happened in the 3pm kick offs as they stepped out on the Amex Stadium turf. At that point panic stations were near a 10 and even Mikel Arteta appeared to be losing his cool as he rammed his index fingers into his temples in a gesture to get them to calm down. Kauro Mitoma's goal had them back within touching distance and suddenly a sense of nervousness did start to spread among the Arsenal ranks. In the moments prior to kick off though it took on an even greater level of experience.

Arsenal head into 2023 seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Brighton & Hove Albion on New Years' Eve as Manchester City ...

Whilst it seems a comfortable win on paper, the Gunners must overcome these tests should they lift the Premier League in May. Thomas Frank's side are currently five games unbeaten after defeating Manchester City and holding Tottenham to a draw on Boxing Day. In fact, their last win at Goodison Park came in October 2017 with Everton winning three of the previous four meetings. Victories over Nottingham Forest and Wolves have forced Erik ten Hag's men into the top four and will come into this fixture, like Arsenal, on the back of a local derby with Manchester City the weekend before. Frank Lampard's side have struggled to find consistency this season and find themselves in a similar position as they did last term. However, Antonio Conte's side steadied the ship prior to the break with qualification to the Champions League knockout stages followed by a dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds United. As you may now have realised, Arsenal's return to Premier League football is pretty difficult. Following the World Cup break, Eddie Howe's side have defeated Leicester City and drew 0-0 with Leeds. The games don't get any easier for Arsenal and it's another difficult opponent in Newcastle. First half goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard were followed by Eddie Nketiah's second goal in as many games as Mikel Arteta's side surpassed the Seagulls with little trouble. Now, attention turns to next week's difficult clash against Newcastle. [Spurs ](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/)sit eight points behind the Gunners and had encountered a strange start to the season with a number of surprise results.
