Norwich City vs Reading: Match Preview 2022/23 (The Tilehurst End)

Reading will be looking to secure their fourth win in five league games this evening as they make the trip to Norfolk to face managerless Norwich City.

Considering how difficult our upcoming games our with Norwich and West Brom both having strong squads, it was vital to get something from the Swansea game. The Swans’ defence has been a weak point for the South Wales outfit since his appointment and that might be one reason why the Norwich board decide to turn their back on their former defender. Russell Martin may be an obvious candidate considering his ties with the club - but it would take him a while to implement his style at Carrow Road and he hasn’t been that successful at Swansea either.

Norwich City 1-1 Reading FC: Player Ratings (The Tilehurst End)

See how Ross rated the Royals for their efforts at Carrow Road and vote for your MOTM.

Good to see him back in the line-up, but he looked a little as though he hasn’t started since November 8. Unlucky not to score on the hour mark as he headed down well, but unfortunately straight at the keeper from a dangerous-looking corner. Carroll was used as the first point of attack, rather than the end goal, and proved effective. A little calmer in possession tonight than he looked earlier in the week, but still guilty of losing the ball outside of his own box multiple times when Norwich pressed high. A good night from Carroll who demonstrated how he can be used as part of a system, rather than as the inevitable end result. He was probably lucky not to have much to do in the first 45 after that, as he took a nasty boot to the back of the head. Performed well defensively in the first half but still seems lacking as a balanced left-wing-back. Interchanged nicely with Ince and Hoilett in the first half down the right-hand side and had some joy, getting crosses into the box for Carroll to knock down. Not bad for the man who’s meant to be providing defensive grit. Bravely got down to stop Teemu Pukki in his tracks when he was put through one-on-one in the first 20 minutes. His general solid self in the first half. All in all, a very solid outing from the loan keeper.

Norwich City 1-1 Reading: Andy Carroll penalty earns point for Royals (Sky Sports)

Report and free match highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash between Norwich City and Reading at Carrow Road as Adam Idah's goal was cancelled out by Andy Carroll's penalty for the Royals on Friday night. Friday 30 December 2022 22:39, UK.

We have to put a lot of hard work in against two possession-based teams in the space of four days but they have stuck at it and got their reward." We aren't the team we want to be yet, far from it, but there is something special about this group of players. I thought the fans were excellent as well. Their player sold it well to the referee and I am gutted for the lads in there. They deserved a win - but unfortunately you don't always get what you deserve in this game. Norwich's interim head coach Allan Russell: "I am proud of every single one of the players in the dressing room now and they have lost a win by a poor decision.

Should have had it in the 17th minute when he volleyed into the ground before balooning a header into the air. Will also be frustrated with his relatively tame effort when slipped in at an angle by Nunez in the second half. The talent is clearly there for the Chilean, but he must improve his concentration if he's to reach his high potential. 6 7

Five Things From Reading FC's Solid Draw At Norwich City (The Tilehurst End)

Bobbins picks out what we learned from the Royals' 1-1 at Carrow Road on Friday night.

A division where we sit second in the home form table and second bottom in the away form table. So, as we end 2022, we can marvel at what has been achieved with the state of the club as it is. A risk we did well with was the introduction of Nesta Guinness-Walker for Tom McIntyre at left-wing-back. With Norwich being managerless and with a crowd that seemed a bit edgy, it would have been nice to see us go for the win, but instead we saw a paint-by-numbers half when if a pass was on it was played. To be fair on Lucas, when a system is designed around him he can be deadly, but we rarely have had that luxury or squad to be able to do so. We don’t have Sam Hutchinson to take the place of the erratic Mamadou Loum.
