Ross County host Rangers on Friday night in the clubs' final pre-Christmas fixture which will be played in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

County didn’t trouble the home goal with no shots on target. John Lundstram and Steven Davies were on the score sheet, as was Antonio Colak with a double. The Staggies find themselves tenth in the Premiership and lost last time out against St Johnstone.

However, a moment of quality from Lundstram broke the deadlock and ultimately proved decisive. Jack and Rabbi Matondo took over from Arfield and Malik Tillman, and Rangers continued to dominate possession but a second goal did not appear imminent. Jordan Tillson’s looping cross from the right to the back post found George Harmon but his header from four yards was blocked by the quick reactions of McLaughlin. It is the end of a long week, two long travels and we’re just delighted to get down the road with three points. “The actual approach play to get there I was pleased with. I think, importantly for the group, it is the clean sheet.

Enjoying an increased share of territory since the break, it was now about Rangers finding a second goal to capitalise. Five minutes later, Beale summoned Morelos to take his place and provide a different focal point to the attack. From his first sight of goal, the Colombian choked a shot off target. It looked simpler for substitute Rabbi Matondo when he sped clean through in the closing minutes. The Liverpudlian’s low-key celebration was as composed as his finish. Referee Don Robertson didn’t spot Ryan Kent jumping out of the way the ball and blanked Tillman’s demands for a corner. Jordan Tillson seized on the loose ball and immediately delivered for George Harmon at the far post. His attempted finish was straight at Laidlaw, who made a solid save. After a mixed opening period enlivened by John Lundstram’s excellent and ultimately decisive goal, Rangers exerted a greater degree control after the break. This time, Davies defended dismally, being outmuscled by Owura Edwards as the on-loan winger hared into the area. The 19-year-old picked out Malik Tillman for a poked attempt that deflected wide off Alex Iacovitti. Once again, though, those under his command delivered the right result.

Bruce Bochy Wants Rangers to be Fundamental (Sports Illustrated)

Data, both traditional and analytics-based, show that the Texas Rangers have ground to make up defensively next season.

You get it down enough that it just comes natural to you and that's where you want to be.” Semien was the only one in the Top 40, ranked No. There are other areas when it comes to fundamentals where the Rangers must get better. Only the Chicago White Sox were worse at minus-11. In traditional data, the Rangers were below the league average in fielding percentage at .984. “If you don't execute, that can cost you and that's the worst way to lose a ball game,” Bochy said. Again, it wasn’t far below the league average (.697) but well below the top end (Los Angeles Dodgers at .729). Get into deeper analytics and you see how that traditional data begins to connect. The Rangers also had the seventh-most errors of any team (96). The top fielding percentage was the St. That’s not what the Rangers were last season. That’s a shade misleading because the league average was .985.

I think tonight was probably the most you have seen us, the best flow of what he has been asking from us, especially keeping the ball in their half and sustaining attacks. Lundstram's first-half effort enough as Rangers edge Ross County (The42)

Elsewhere, Alan Power was sent off as his Kilmarnock side battled to a 2-2 draw at Motherwell.

Killie had struggled to provide a threat before Power’s 68th-minute red card and trailed to goals from Kevin van Veen and Callum Slattery. Zak Delaney featured alongside Doran, the goalscorer coming on as a second half substitute. But Paul McGinn’s own goal soon gave them hope and former Polworth produced a sensational finish two minutes later to seal a draw. Former Motherwell midfielder Liam Polworth’s long-range strike earned 10-man Kilmarnock an unlikely point as the visitors came from two goals down at Fir Park. The visitors had the chance to settle it in added time only for Laidlaw to thwart Matondo in a one-on-one battle but the points remained Ibrox-bound. Returning midfielder Lundstram scored what proved to be the winner in the 35th minute of a stodgy performance which made it three wins out of three for the former Rangers assistant coach, who will be pleased with the clean sheet if not the overall display.

The ex-Sheffield United man was given acres of space and loads of time to get his shot away by the County defence. Bagging his fifth goal of the 2022/23 campaign will have given him a much-needed lift. But that aside he failed to make a significant impact. The kid was one of Rangers’ brightest performers. The score had been 1-1 at half-time. The former

Enjoying a larger share of territory since the break, it was now all about Rangers finding a second goal to capitalize on. Five minutes later, Beale summoned Morelos to take his place and provide a different focal point to the attack. It was a feature the county simply couldn’t handle. From his first sight of goal, the Colombian drowned out a deflected shot. Lundstram deflected the ball to the right towards Fashion Sakala. His downward header looked sure to find the net, until McLaughlin pushed off his left foot to make a superb save to love. Davies was only able to clear halfway after a good run from the county game started by Yan Dhanda’s clever left-right switch. Trying, particularly in the first half, they will now be looking to score points in a crucial visit to face Dundee United at Tannadice. A wide, cross ball was perfect for forward left-back Devine to keep up with him. The county shouldn’t be too damaged by a setback. While Borna Barisic will return from a post-World Cup break on Boxing Day, the Croatian may not be guaranteed a place when Motherwell heads to Ibrox next Wednesday. The Englishman was also able to enjoy another impressive performance from young Adam Devine.

Rangers should wait until the summer to begin Michael Beale's rebuild (HeraldScotland)

MICHAEL BEALE needs to have one eye on the dressing room and the other on the treatment room. Only then can be venture into the boardroom.

When Ridvan Yilmaz went down holding his hamstring during the win over Aberdeen - ironically with Beale watching on from the stands - it was a moment that summed up the season for Rangers. The loss of Tom Lawrence in late August was a major blow and the ongoing issues with Kemar Roofe left Rangers short of firepower. Those updates from Beale came before Allan McGregor succumbed to a sickness bug and perhaps opened the eyes of supporters to the situation at Ibrox. If there is not a marked improvement once the ranks have been bolstered, the spotlight will shine even brighter on the signings and those that sanctioned them. It is something of a cliche to state that returning players can be like new signings but Beale was entitled to make that point in recent days. That is, of course, after the transfer window has come and gone and it leaves Rangers caught between a rock and a hard place in terms of their recruitment strategy.
