Bruno, who famously hates missing matches, will be sidelined for our last-eight game in the week commencing 9 January 2023. If a player receives a caution in consecutive games in the Carabao Cup, they miss the next tie. Since the 2019/20 campaign, domestic bookings only count for that specific competition.

Erik ten Hag on state of Man Utd ahead of domestic football return ... (Eurosport.com)

Erik ten Hag has admitted Manchester United are “far away” from where they need to be as he prepares for the return of domestic football.

"I always say, satisfaction makes you lazy. "Manchester United was not in the circumstances that you would expect of them. Goalkeeper David de Gea is still in negotiations with the club. “I am happy with the way the players perform and the fact they play as a team with the right spirit and the right mentality," the Dutchman said. Ten Hag says he is “happy” with the performance of his players but urged they need to maintain a high level. "I think now we’re in the right direction but we’re far away from where we need to be."

How on earth will Man Utd replace Ronaldo and his one Premier ... (Football365.com)

Ronaldo started four Premier League games this season so obviously Marcus Rashford was sending a 'message' with his ninth goal of the campaign. Yawn.

We thought that ‘message’ might be to Erik ten Hag or Gareth Southgate but no, Manchester United’s top scorer ‘sent a message to Cristiano Ronaldo’, an ex-Manchester United striker who started four Premier League games this season. At some point we knew that Marcus Rashford scoring his ninth goal of the season would be framed as some kind of ‘message’. And we remembered that a list of leading Manchester United goalscorers for the season read – before the 2-0 win over Burnley – Rashford (8), Martial (4), Fernandes, Antony, Sancho, Ronaldo (3). ‘Life without Cristiano Ronaldo has started well for Manchester United. ‘Cristiano Ronaldo left the club by mutual agreement last month. We remembered that Manchester United had scored six goals in two games before the World Cup break.

There was interest from the London outfit back in the summer about a potential Wan-Bissaka return. The Eagles are seen as part of a potential rescue mission that could enable Wan-Bissaka to rediscover his best form. Ten Hag is very much seeking to lead a Manchester outfit that will, eventually, become the type of team that dominates possession and imposes their style on other teams. [Harry Maguire](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/harry-maguire) was another perceived favourite. Wan-Bissaka had enjoyed a breakout year at [Crystal Palace](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/crystal-palace-fc) and had the young English player premium placed upon him, which eventually saw the Red Devils part with £50m. Danny Mills, a former England right-back, echoed that and claimed the system exposed his flaws. That meant their defenders were more involved in the attack, which didn't play to Wan-Bissaka's strengths. Marcus Rashford scored a sublime solo goal as Manchester United progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Erik ten Hag's side were happy to give them a certain amount of possession, though, in order to catch them out and let their technical players pass their way through the lines. Their press was aggressive and they saw plenty of the ball against a United outfit that, while strong, looked admittedly thrown together in defence. Ten Hag's Red Devils clinched another victory, with droplets of his footballing school of thought evident once again among a rotated side.

Independent panel concludes that six goals were wrongfully disallowed by VAR this season, including an Arsenal goal against Manchester United.

So far this season, 48 goals have been overturned in the Premier League, with the panel judging six to be incorrect. Also on the list is Maxwel Cornet's late equaliser for West Ham against Chelsea, ruled out for a foul in the build-up by Jarrod Bowen on Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. While this decision was more widely debated at the time than the Arsenal goal, West Ham will feel vindicated in the decision of the panel.
