Dragon Age: Absolution Gives BioWare's Franchise a Vitality Boost (Gizmodo)

The fantasy-RPG franchise comes to life in this short but very sweet Netflix series.

Compared to other video game series on Netflix like Arcane and Castlevania, the show lacks a certain prestige and grandness that have made those series so memorable. With such energetic animation and a compelling cast, Dragon Age: Absolution is a fun series to close out the year on, and has enough going on to make it feel like the franchise is well and truly back. [Absolution](https://gizmodo.com/dragon-age-absolution-trailer-netflix-bioware-animated-1849768742) aims to give the franchise a little nudge back into the spotlight. As much as the RPG series cribs from [the classics](https://gizmodo.com/one-dnd-racism-rpg-stereotypes-dungeons-dragons-wotc-1849531852) to inform its own universe, there’s a [unique flair](https://kotaku.com/dragon-age-inquisition-saved-my-life-1845717274) that gives it an identity all its own. Though he’s elated to see her when they eventually cross paths again for the first time in years, the show makes clear in no uncertain terms that her time in the Ammosine household was abusive to some degree or another, even if Rezaren himself never knew (or ignored) the obvious power he had over her. [Dragon Age II](https://gizmodo.com/why-i-still-love-dragonage-ii-no-matter-what-anyone-sa-1709123333), sure, but this show is completely its own thing.

Dragon Age Absolution Ending Explained: Who Steals the Circulum ... (Leisurebyte)

Replete with visuals of bloody violence, the animation is directed by Ki Yong-bae and produced by Red Dog Culture House and stars Kimberley Brooks as Miriam, ...

Back at the Crimson Knights’ headquarters, a new antagonist awaits the heroes and is willing to eliminate everyone who walks in as a hindrance in her plan of getting her hands on the Circulum. The team comes up with a new plan to destroy the relic for good and follow Hira. Miri gets the chase that Hira never needed her help to find the artefact, rather she brought her along to sell her back to Rezaren. She lies about him being on to her about the safe house location, and her team starts seeing through her and Miriam asks for it. She turned her aim elsewhere after having sought an alliance with the Crimson Knight, who was more than accepting of the cause and ready to burn Tevinter to the ground. Fairbanks was believed to be the traitor all along, especially since his fight with Hira for the Circulum in the initial episodes.

Dragon Age: Absolution Keeps The Awesome Adaptation Train ... (KAKUCHOPUREI.COM)

Is there any other adaptation of an existing video game that can top the likes of Arcane: League of Legends and Cyberpunk Edgerunners this generation?

Dragon Age: Absolution is a great show that respects the source material with its complex characters and lovely action, though it could benefit more from an extra episode or two. Dragon Age: Absolution keeps true to what a Dragon Age game is about: character relationships and fallouts. The artifact, the Circulum, they’re stealing is in the Tevinter Imperium, a place known for its mages and enslaving elves.

Season Review: Dragon Age: Absolution Season One ... (Bubbleblabber)

Miriam and her friend Roland join a group of mercenaries to steal the Circulum. When the heist goes wrong everyone has to deal with the fallout. Our Take:.

You should definitely give this a watch and one of the bright sides to its short length is you can watch it in one evening. But still, the rest of this arc could have used a little more love and fleshing out so I still look at it as an issue personally. Miriam was an interesting character with a lot of layers so they did the right thing by hiring an actor like Kimberly to bring it to life. When magic was being used it popped off the screen and you felt like you were in the middle of the face-to-face fights. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (I guess you could argue this one a bit), Arcane, and the massively popular Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Miriam and her friend Roland join a group of mercenaries to steal the Circulum.

'Dragon Age Absolution' Season 1 Review: Fun & Queer! (The Geekiary)

The six-episode-long Dragon Age Absolution season 1 on Netflix is ready to offer Dragon Age fans a fun action-filled time that is also queer as heck!

And let’s see if and how the events in this show link to And the reveal in the finale concerning [Meredith Stannard](https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Meredith_Stannard) will definitely not have the same impact on casual viewers compared to how I was like “Wait! Even though I liked what the writers are able to deliver, I do feel that the relationships could have benefited from more breathing space. The show’s rated TV-MA so expect to see a good amount of blood and death during fight sequences that involve traditional weapons and magic. He’s stuck in his ways and it’s very fun to see him continue to fall deeper into the darkness all in the name of wanting to do the right thing. And the fact that Rezaren still wanted her to accept his deal was a clear indicator of how he was unable to empathize with what she had been through, even though they both grew up together. Accepting mortality and learning how to let things go were major narrtaive themes and the writing team did well exploring them through Rezaren and Miriam’s troubled relationship. And I liked how the writing team revealed her reasons as the story progressed. I do think many of you, like me, hoped that he decided to come over to the good side after meeting Miriam. I liked how the writers revealed Miriam and Hira’s relationship ASAP. Both Miriam and Roland get caught in a mission to steal a magical artifact called the Circulum Infinitus when Miriam’s ex-girlfriend, a human mage named Hira (Sumalee Montano), decided to reach out. Being able to strengthen or weaken relationships between the characters on your team is a big part of the Dragon Age games.

Review: Dragon Age Absolution - Season 1 (Vanguard)

Dragon Age: Absolution is based on the Bioware Dragon Age series of games. It is one of the reasons it has fans as excited as they are.

With every single movement demanding several steps in the creative process – not to mention whatever specific involvement Netflix and BioWare might have had directly or indirectly – it’s a wonder anything is ever made at all. It is one of the reasons it has fans as excited as they are. Aside from Qwydion the Qunari mage that Ashly Burch voices, that is, who never fails to make any scene she is in pop.

6 Things We Liked, and 2 We Didn't, About Dragon Age: Absolution (Gizmodo)

The new animated Netflix show set in the world of BioWare's fantasy RPGs is a lot of fun, even if it is mostly for diehards.

There’s little to no explanation for why Elves are so looked down upon, especially in the land of the Tevinter Imperium, and not enough to explore the Imperium’s magical theocracy—and what makes it truly different to the rest of Dragon Age’s world. It’s kind of emblematic of a lot of Absolution’s vibe, which is very much acting on the presumption that you already are deeply enmeshed in the lore of the games for much of its stakes and world. Especially for me, noted Dragon Age II stan. Maligned as it is for its limited scope and rushed development, it remains my favorite entry in the series, and I will forever cherish that which the wider Dragon Age fandom looks down upon. Sure, the Circulum is presented as a magical doohickey with massive ramifications for the world, but of much more interest to Absolution is trying to grasp the power it has over our characters, and the emotional fallout vying for that kind of magic can have on people. Absolution thankfully believes that’s a load of old hokum, and while there are certainly big stakes in its story—diving deep into the mage-driven theocracy of long-time-looming threat in the Dragon Age law, the Tevinter Imperium, and a magical cursed artifact capable of allegedly resurrecting the dead beyond necromancy called the Circulum Infinitus—they’re not really the series’ dramatic focus. But beyond its technical faults, it’s often derided for the fact that, after the nation-spanning existential threat of the Blight in Dragon Age Origins, its narrow focus on a small-time group of unlikely heroes largely gathered around the growing political and religious discord of a single city felt too small for what people expected out of a big, blockbuster fantasy RPG series. It’s just nice to get a lot of queer goodness without it being about the existence of the representation itself that matters, and instead how much it informs the character dynamics and the drama of the story. Even better is the fact that applies this lens to its antagonists too, creating a foil for Miriam and her allies to clash with in very interesting ways. Whenever a fantasy adventure series gathers a party to venture forth, there are two ways of going about: they’re either great, capable heroes united in a common, just cause, or they’re the most absolutely, blessedly stupid idiots winging their way into danger and potential glory. We Loved... Thankfully, [ much more of the former](https://gizmodo.com/dragon-age-absolution-netflix-bioware-review-1849879387) than the latter.
