Familiar foes on foreign fields (Chelsea FC)

Since the turn of the millennium, it has not been uncommon to watch Chelsea take on one of our Premier League rivals outside England.

However, after preventing the Blues from scoring eight years earlier, the new Aston Villa goalkeeper was beaten after only 34 seconds in the final at the Hong Kong Stadium as Josh McEachran tucked the ball away at the third attempt after Given had done well to deny Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda. Although the Blues faced Southampton in a post-season match in Denmark after our inaugural league campaign in May 1906, matches abroad against our regular league foes were a rare occurrence in the 20th Century. It proved to be a tight affair which was settled by an early goal by Gary Cahill who headed in Victor Mosesโ€™ corner after 10 minutes.

Pat Nevin: Hoping for Hakim lift off at Chelsea (Chelsea FC)

With less than a week to go before finding out if either of the two Chelsea players still involved in Qatar will be coming home a World Cup winner, ...

It is hard to call, which if any of the Chelsea players is now going to come back to the Bridge with that precious World Cup winnerโ€™s medal, ready to show it off to everyone else. It was one of the highlights of the tournament for me when the Croatians got the late equaliser against Brazil through Bruno Petkovic followed by the tension of the penalties, but that was totally blown away by the other quarter-final I was at between Morocco and Portugal. He is happy to take it with men on him the way As for the French, they were my favourites to win from the start and nothing has happened to change my mind on that, including the list of big-name injuries they have had to deal with. Of course, he would want the best for his country but missing out on playing must be painful as his team are strong favourites now to win the trophy. To manage that and also to play for Arsenal and still make so few, if any, enemies in England says volumes about Olivier as a person and as a player.
