Pablo Mari released from hospital after stabbing on Thursday (Football Espana)

Former Real Mallorca, Girona and Arsenal defender Pablo Mari has been released from hospital after he was stabbed on Thursday night.

The 29-year-old, currently playing for Monza on loan from Arsenal, was in a shopping centre with his wife and child when he was stabbed. He underwent surgery for his injuries. He released a message on social media saying that he and his family were ok and recovering, thanking people for their messages of support.

Pablo underwent surgery to reconstruct damaged back muscles and Monza confirmed on Sunday that Mari has now returned home.

A Monza statement published on Friday suggested Mari would be out of action for around two months. Monza said in a statement that Mari will undergo a period of "absolute rest". The Spanish defender thanked well-wishers on social media on Friday, posting a picture of himself in a hospital bed alongside his wife.
