'Ridiculous' Haaland sets new scoring records (BBC Sport)

Erling Haaland is called "ridiculous" and "sublime" as he obliterates the record for fastest player to score 15 Premier League goals in Saturday's 4-0 win ...

Haaland could also close in on the Norway goalscoring record this season. Tom Waring is second with 49 goals for Aston Villa in the top flight in 1930-31. His nine goals in one game against Honduras in 2019 remains a record for a Fifa Under-20 World Cup match. Haaland also has the record for fewest Champions League games needed to score 10, 15 and 20 goals. He left Bryne at the age of 16 after no goals in 16 games. The Norway striker took Quinn's record (11) of most goals in his first nine Premier League games. Harry Kane was closest with 29 goals in 30 games in 2016-17. He has four in October so far. If Haaland scores another seven goals he would break or equal those marks too. Those nine goals made him the top scorer in August of any Premier League season. Before this season Micky Quinn had the most goals in his first nine Premier League appearances with 11. He had a similar start to his time in Germany.

Which goal scoring records can Erling Haaland break with Man City? (AS English)

Manchester City's Norwegian striker can't stop scoring and his net-busting skills could see a host of records fall, including top Premier League scorer.

The record for Champions League goals stands at a remarkable 140 set by Cristiano Ronaldo in his spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. Even so, the Norwegian goal machine would likely need at least eight, nine or more seasons at the top of his game in the Champions League to trouble Ronaldo’s efforts. The closest was Tom Waring of Aston Villa who slotted home 49 goals in the 1930-31 season. He’d need a record-breaking 43 goals per season to do it in six. Haaland could well be on course to break this record this season. But at his current scoring rate Haaland would need considerably less than a 100 games to get to the 100 goal mark. Just for fun - one quirky hat-trick record in the Premier League is scoring consecutive hat-tricks in two different seasons. For a 42-game season the record is held by Shearer and Andy Cole, who both hit that number in 93-94 with Newcastle and 94-95 with Blackburn respectively. Haaland now has 28 games in 22 appearances, from his time at Salzburg, Dortmund and now City. The 22 year old striker (born 21 July 2000, in Leeds, UK) has already scored 19 goals in 12 appearances for Man City, and in doing so has set a number of records. This is another record held by Alan Shearer, who scored 260 goals over his 441 game career. (That’s about the same in dollars).

Erling Haaland has scored 19 goals in 12 appearances in all competitions since signing for Manchester City.

[Haaland](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/erling-haaland), whose goal tally includes 14 strikes in the Premier League, has also scored three hat-tricks already this term. "Also, his finishing, his runs from deep, his headers, he has improved a lot already. "But I am not surprised with what he is doing right now. "We had, in the first half, two things where we did not slide and they played so quick and there is immediately a big chance. He had been switched to right-back in the absence of Kyle Walker in midweek but whichever flank that Cancelo plays on he is a creative force. I think this then makes it a little bit harder for us then to press. The supporters seemed a little bemused by it, so accustomed have they become to seeing him score. He helped us again, he keeps the ball and fights. Even the club stuck him on the front page of the programme for this one. The goal maintained Haaland's outrageous scoring while heaping further misery on Hasenhuttl but perhaps the story of this game is that the striker's goals were not needed. Cancelo was the best player on the pitch, while Foden rivalled him until being withdrawn just before the hour mark. The finish for his goal was even cuter, dinking the ball beyond Gavin Bazunu after being played in by De Bruyne. Jack Grealish dropped to the bench with Riyad Mahrez coming in. The 22-year-old forward had been rested against FC Copenhagen in midweek along with Kevin De Bruyne and their return provided the impetus. Joao Cancelo's brilliant solo run started the scoring midway through the first half and Phil Foden added a second soon after with City utterly dominant.

Haaland, still looking to get in on the action, then shot just wide before unexpectedly failing to make contact with a De Bruyne ball across the six-yard line. Hasenhuttl’s side have now lost four games in succession and the Austrian may do well to survive in his job much longer. Goalscorer Riyad Mahrez, speaking to BBC Sport, said: "It was a difficult game, we made it easy by scoring early and then we controlled. Yet the 22-year-old battled on and was typically in the right place to turn home a square Cancelo pass from close range after the Portuguese had linked with De Bruyne. If not, there are a lot of players and everyone can make a difference. We have to keep going with the momentum."

Erling Haaland once again found the back of the net as Manchester City beat Southampton 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland, still looking to get in on the action, then shot just wide before unexpectedly failing to make contact with a De Bruyne ball across the six-yard line. Hasenhuttl's side have now lost four games in succession and the Austrian may do well to survive in his job much longer. That was a let-off for Southampton but their luck did not last much longer as Cancelo charged through their defence to open the scoring with a thunderous shot.

City have been in record-breaking form this season, with Haaland's start to his Premier League career setting new standards for goalscoring. The record was previously set by Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1959, with the Midlands side recording nine successive matches at Molineux in which they scored more than three goals. The Norwegian has broken the record for the most goals scored in his first 10 games with 15 goals already in nine games and is on track to break the league scoring record comfortably.

The Algeria winger met Rodri’s cross with a clinical volley from a tight angle. Kane struck with his eighth goal of the season in the 22nd minute, the England captain converting Son Heung-min’s cross with a glancing header. Armando Broja grabbed his first goal for Chelsea with a 20-yard drive in the 90th minute. Christian Pulisic put Chelsea in complete control with a cute finish after exchanging passes with Mount in the 54th minute. Inevitably, Haaland wasn’t to be denied and he finished off Cancelo’s pass with a typically ruthless close-range effort in the 65th minute. Manchester City swept to the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 rout of Southampton as Erling Haaland extended his incredible scoring run to 10 successive games, while resurgent Chelsea eased to a 3-0 victory against Wolves on Saturday.

Guimaraes was also a thorn in Brentford's side when they were able to take the ball off him. The last time Leicester lost a Premier League game when winning at half-time was here at Bournemouth in July 2020, when they ended up being thumped 4-1. Had it been a different story, he may not have received such a warm reception from the Chelsea faithful when subbed off in the second half. Potter made it clear in his post-match press conference that getting that balance of minutes right is crucial, both for the success on the pitch and the morale in the dressing room. On the evidence at Bournemouth, Leicester are not in a false position because without leadership in this league, away venues can be a very lonely place. That was not always evident during the previous campaign but their strength in depth was plain to see on Saturday, as a much-changed line-up swept aside Wolves. But the gulf to the quality Graham Potter could call upon was enormous. To the backdrop of an empty stadium, the players were undertaking their first post-match fitness duties since the passing of their guru. There was an eerie silence as the nine substitutes were put through their paces by two members of the coaching staff. It was hard not to get emotional walking down the steps from the press box at the Amex, long after the final whistle had gone and witness the Spurs substitutes doing their warm down. The supporters seemed a little bemused by it, so accustomed have they become to seeing him score. Even the club stuck him on the front page of the programme for this one.

Guardiola 'upset' with Erling Haaland for only scoring a single goal ... (Eurosport.com)

Pep Guardiola joked that he was 'upset' with Norwegian striker Erling Haaland for only scoring a single goal in 4-0 Manchester City win over Southampton.

In a 38-game season, the record is Mohamed Salah's 32 in 2017-18, while Andy Cole and Alan Shearer each scored 34 in a 42-game season. He said: "The problem is that even if he's not immediately scoring you have to be aware of him much more, the centre-backs are more fixed in the centre, it makes it harder for us in the press. He said: "He scored a brilliant goal. He went on to explain in greater detail. That's why there's a petition to sack him from the Premier League!" Guardiola said: "I'm so upset with him - he didn't score three goals.

Jurgen Klopp makes honest Erling Haaland admission when ... (Liverpool Echo)

Klopp is backing Salah to rediscover his form but says comparisons with Haaland are pointless given his stunning start at Man CIty.

You might find it if you watch the game back but from that moment on we were able to play football. "There were times were Mo defended the half-spaces, won the ball back from the opponents and it was a great situation and it showed what we had to do. "We need to perform as a team and make sure everyone can perform as the best version of themselves and that is the idea around the whole thing. "With Mo it's like it is with us," Klopp said. Call him in 20 years and it will be the same, that cannot change. If this team defends on its highest level, we are able to play some good football. With Mo it is like this: Even if his goalscoring numbers aren't crazy, it's always about how often he is involved in the offensive situations. But it's not about that, you can say what you like about Mo Salah and you can say 'is he having a great season?' but it's like so many others. It's just the problem that if you don't score around that then nobody appreciates that. I don't anyway, so it's all fine." That has never changed. It means I see little things as well, so for me it's fine.
