Despite the recent acquisition of its Air Transport Licence (ATL) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA ) and the conclusion of the bidding ...

“It is the overall share capital of around 300 Million USD, provided by the preferred bidder that will launch Nigeria Air to its full size of 30 aircraft and international operation within the next two years. He recalled that former Nigeria Airways operated to many countries indirectly through commercial agree¬ments, stressing that this would also boost the interlining and global alliances for the air line, maintaining that this was a necessity in today’s aviation industry. “What is glaring here is that Ethiopian Airlines is not losing a single amount of money be¬cause we are paying for aircraft they are leasing from them. “It sounds like Ethiopian Airlines was the only choice for a technical partner and core investor. This is not the dream nation¬al carrier we were all looking towards. She said, “Countries would claim it is within their rights not to allow designation of a foreign owned and effectively con¬trolled national carrier to op¬erate Nigeria’s BASA routes. We are paying for the crew they are bringing in; we are paying for training and maintenance. If you look at all the airlines that Ethiopian Airlines has partnered with on the coast of Africa, you will see that none is successful, aside from Asky Airlines. Shortly after that, Ethiopian Airlines (ET) Consortium was selected as preferred bidder for the operation of Nigeria Air. “Ethiopian airlines has no good records in Nigeria when it comes to drug trafficking. During the launch, the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika had promised that Nigeria Air would commence operations at the end of the year 2018. Other bidders allegedly submitted their bids after the close of the bidding process.

Nigeria Air Open To China's COMAC C919 Narrowbody (Simple Flying)

Though the carrier is set to launch in 2023 with three Boeing 737-800s, it has not ruled out COMAC's C919 in its further fleet expansion plans.

What are your thoughts on Nigeria Air being open to the C919? What airlines would you like to see operate the jet? Nigeria is currently the largest importer of Chinese goods in Africa, with around $24 billion traveling into the country in 2021. A C919 order would make Nigeria Air the first international customer for the narrowbody jet. Moreover, COMAC’s expected production rate of close to 150 aircraft per year by 2025-when it planned to deliver the first series in 2021-requires a learning curve that makes it unrealistic in three years. «China and Nigeria have a very warm and friendly, mutually beneficial relationship,» the minister added. «We have not examined the C919.

Nigeria Air to consider Comac C919 aircraft (AviationSource)

Nigerian start-up airline Nigeria Air has stated that it will look at the COMAC C919 as a possible option over Airbus or Boeing.

As Nigeria Air is seeing potential in adding the newly certified C919 aircraft to its fleet, it remains unsure whether this will happen or not. Nigeria Air is now the latest airline to show potential interest in the aircraft type, just days after a longed-for moment occurred. In Early 2022, the first Comac C919 for a customer completed its maiden test flight, marking yet another step forward in the aircraft’s development and certification process.

The first C919 aircraft, designed to compete with popular single-aisle models made by Airbus and Boeing, will be delivered by the end of the year, state Xinhua News Agency said. Last Friday, China hailed the development of its first medium-haul passenger jet as the embodiment of the country’s drive towards self-sufficiency, with safety approval awarded to a plane that aims to challenge Western aircraft giants for orders. Sirika said the new airline would have a mixture of Airbus and Boeing planes, but added the carrier is also willing to look at the Chinese narrowbody jet, which Chinese regulators certified last Friday.
