Juventus v Bologna Match Preview and Scouting (JuveFC)

The break didn't bring a coaching change but facilitated multiple returns from injury, and Juventus will try to exploit them versus Bologna.

If Bologna manage to be intense and fierce for the 90 minutes and limit their defensive woes, the Bianconeri would be in for another long game. They have two more defensive-minded veteran alternatives, Lorenzo De Silvestri and Charalampos Lykogiannis, but they would lose a lot of juice with both of them in the lineup. However, if they want something more, they would have to cease cashing in on their best contributors and constantly having to replace them, with the newcomers inevitably needing time to fit in and flourish. They both like to have the ball and cut back, as their best skill is to fire off from distance. Jhon Lucumi and Stefan Posch form a strong and well-assorted duo in the back, as they both combine physique and agility. They will have to bust their tails tracking back too; otherwise, they could easily be split in half on opposing counters. It shouldn’t just be up to the latter to connect the lines, even though he’s more polished, to be a little more unpredictable and keep the Serb engaged. The replacements appear pretty good but are unlikely to have the same ceiling. A positive string of results would catapult the Bianconeri back into the top positions, but the question now is whether they have it in them to right the ship. Perhaps he and the brass weren’t on the same page about the team’s trajectory. Now it’ll be up to Allegri to find a scheme to lean on consistently, giving it time to oil the mechanisms. As for the XI; the South Americans are the main question marks, as Juan Cuadrado and Leandro Paredes could be initially spared after long flights.

It sure would be nice to see something different from this team for the simple fact that much of what we’ve witnessed thus far has been utter crap and nothing to inspire any sort of confidence in Allegri’s project going forward. A new season with a new look to the team and a new mindset as compared to what we saw prior to the international break when Juve was absolutely awful in a loss to Serie A newbies Monza. But if nothing good actually does happen, then this “new season” is going to look a lot like the previous season that supposedly ended two weeks ago in Monza. in the United Kingdom, 2:45 p.m. That is something to be excited about because so many things that Allegri has said over the past 16 months have gone right.

Meanwhile, for the five-men midfield setup, the tactician is going to start De Sciglio and Kostic as wing-backs. Massimiliano Allegri’s side will be gunning to end their poor form this weekend as they face Bologna. Szczesny will likely return in goal replacing the reliable Mattia Perin who has been starting in most of Juve’s game this season.

Serie A result - Juventus roll past Bologna with Filip Kostic, Dusan ... (Eurosport.com)

Juventus eased some of the pressure on manager Massimiliano Allegri as they ended a five match winless run by battering Bologna 3-0.

Milik absolutely batters a volley into the back of the net from inside the box. It's another sensational Juventus counter-attack, and it's rounded off by Vlahovic at the back-post with a towering header from McKennie's pin-point cross However, once ‘The Old Lady’ got their second, the shackles came off and they started playing with the kind of care-free abandon that fans have been desperate to see. The second half started in a similar fashion to the first, with neither team really finding any kind of dominance. That completely killed the game off, with Bologna heads dropping and Juve able to take their foot off the gas. That seemed to lift the pressure off Juventus, and they nearly doubled their lead shortly afterwards, only for Lukasz Skorupski to make a stunning save from Arkadiusz Milik’s close-range volley.

Juventus vs Bologna Player Ratings: Vlahovic Rediscovers his Touch (The Cult of Calcio)

Here are our player ratings for Sunday night's encounter between Juventus and Bologna in the 8th round of Serie A, which ended in favor of the hosts.

He had his side’s most dangerous chance in the match his shot was deflected out by Alex Sandro. The Austrian striker was isolated for 90 minutes, but his incredible work rate is enough to earn him a favorable grade. The Bologna captain couldn’t link up the midfield with the attack as he usually does. A poor display from the winger against his old employers. Could have gotten an assist to his name but Milik’s header crashed against the post. Aside from his unorthodox assist for Milik, the Colombian hardly made himself noticed during his second half cameo before picking up Sandro with a nice cross. But will be disappointed for missing the chance to double his personal tally. Put Vlahovic on goal with a brilliant through ball. The former Napoli man sent a couple of warnings for Skorupski before smashing an unstoppable shot to grab the Bianconeri’s third of the night. The Frenchman looked energetic and enthusiastic, but his touch abandoned him on some occasions. The Euro 2020 winner made his return from injury and appeared to be in a good physical shape. The USMNT star formed a solid right side alongside Danilo.

Juventus 3 - Bologna 0: Initial reaction and random observations (Black & White & Read All Over)

Over the course of the next seven or eight minutes, this is what Juventus ended up doing: 59th minute: Dusan Vlahovic goal; 62nd minute: Arek Milik goal. OK, so ...

So a long time that I had to look up the last time I was writing one of those post-game threads after a win. I didn’t think he was going to be all that great based on his counting stats the last couple of years, but this crow tastes wonderful and I’m here for more of it. - I was worried that all Filip Kostic was going to do in this game was just send in cross after cross after cross. - Much like Juventus as a whole, this was a game in which Dusan Vlahovic needed for the good of his season. That’s the kind of Dusan that Juve needs if they want to turn this season around for the better both domestically and in Europe. I guess what I’m trying to say is that this kind of low-key, rather drama-free kind of game is something we haven’t seen from Juventus in quite a while. I don’t think it was as dominant as some folks on certain broadcasts made it out to be considering that Juventus had all of three shots on goal in the first half and wasn’t looking all that great in the second half before the two goals in less than four minutes. There very much was a good amount of time to begin the second half in which you’re thinking to yourself something along the lines of “Juventus makes one mistake and this thing is all tied up again.” That was just the nature of the beast, and that is very much a Juventus kind of thing during the 2022-23 season to think. That thing is just too nice to only bust out a select number of times this season. But above all else, Juventus winning and trying to put some good form together during this six-week stretch prior to the World Cup break is the most important thing of all. They weren’t exactly a rowdy crowd or anything to it when Juve went ahead and then added to their lead, but I’m pretty sure they would have been in the bad sense of it if Bologna had scored. But there’s no denying that the goals from Vlahovic and Milik — two of the best ones Juve’s scored all season — were the breathing room that everybody was hoping for but not necessarily were convinced would actually happen.
