Speed breaker damaged within month (The Tribune)

A speed breaker, which was constructed a month ago in Samkhetar area, is causing a lot of inconvenience to the commuters in Mandi town.

The government should ensure proper parking space near the temple and ensure that vehicles are parked in it. The national highway passing along the Baglamukhi Temple is prone to accidents due to haphazard parking in the area. The Public Works Department should install a quality speed breaker in the area at the earliest.

Speeds exceed limits at entrances to villages (The Adirondack Daily Enterprise)

The survey found the average speed of outbound traffic, 42.3 mph, was greater than inbound traffic, 39 mph. Furthermore, of the 214 outbound vehicles, 25 were ...

For drivers entering the village after having driven at 55 or 60 mph, as we slow to the 40s, it feels like we are going much slower, perhaps even at the 30-mph speed limit. This may explain the high speeds coming into the village, but how do we account for the high speeds leaving the village? On Route 11B, the speed limit goes from 55 mph to 30 at the village line. The survey included only free-flowing vehicles which is standard procedure for speed studies. For inbound vehicles, 8 were at 50 mph or greater. We know drivers are exceeding speed limits nationwide more than ever since COVID-19 for various reasons.

With depleting fighter strength, Indian Air Force looks to speed up Su ... (The Hindu)

Having taken delivery of all Su-30MKI fighter aircraft and the deal for contracting 12 more Su-30s meant to replace those lost over the years deferred in ...

It is not possible for the IAF to reach the sanctioned strength of 42 fighter squadrons in the next 10-15 years and the force will remain at 35 squadrons given the current phase outs and inductions, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal (ACM) V. Part of the measures are long term spares and support agreements as well as Joint Ventures in India with Russian original equipment manufacturers for faster turnaround. In addition, IAF is confident that increasing the low availability rates of Su-30 and other fighters in service will offset some of the shortfall in the interim, as an IAF representative informed the Parliamentary Standing Committee on defence as per a report tabled in March this year. Even though the Su-30s are only to replace the lost ones, with the ongoing war in Ukraine, the government does not want to be seen as approving major defence deals with Russia, the official said, echoing the views of another senior official. The upgrade process is as much as procuring an aircraft, the official said while explaining that the upgrade is a complex exercise and is being planned in phases. The IAF has 12 Su-30 squadrons in service, and anywhere between 40-50 aircraft are at HAL for overhaul repairs at any given time, officials said.
