Rangers vs Dundee United - LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

Could such drastic changes be the turning point and does it point to something. We miss some players through injury but again today I had to disappoint three players who cannot be in the squad so that shows the depth. I expect a different game today in the way it’s going to be played. But the former Kelty Hearts boss has been linked with the vacant Tangerines job so maybe it's a chance to watch them up close before taking charge. Allan McGregor then has to be alert to save a looping header which was about to dip under the crossbar. It shows where Colak is at his most dangerous as he beats three United defenders to get on the end of it. They started brightly and got an early goal but the intensity dropped off and United had some chances. Tony Watt goes down in the box after a challenge from Borna Barisic but Kevin Clancy is having none of it. Borna Barisic whips in a ball from the left and Colak does well to get on the end of it and flick a shot into the net. And it's substitute Sadat Anaku, on for Glenn Middleton, who makes an immediate impact with some lovely skill from the Ugandan to skip past the Gers defence, a few neat one-twos, and then he feeds Smith who fires beyond Allan McGregor. They have to stop the rot and this victory, however, laboured would do that. But it was relief for Rangers as they stopped the rot.

The Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox is the first domestic tie between the two since the monarch's passing.

The minute's silence was interrupted by booing before sections of the crowd were audibly heard chanting 'Lizzie's in a box', in reference to the late monarch. The home crowd then booed the response from the visiting support, before they sang a rendition of the national anthem in the Queen's honour. SPFL matches were postponed last weekend following the Queen's death but the fixture card is set to resume on Saturday.

The possession stats were heavily in Rangers' favour but their profligacy in front of goal kept this one a nervy affair, with Van Bronckhorst's men looking visibly frustrated towards the end of the first 45.

An Antonio Colak double gave Rangers all three points at Ibrox. After the postponement of last weekend's fixtures, Dundee United were back in.

A slick ball inside found McGrath who teed up Liam Smith to fire home with the best part of half an hour to play. Rangers won the ball back deep in their own half and Tavernier lead the counter-attack down United’s left. The ball then fell kindly for Colak but United managed to clear their lines. A second goal for Colak followed three minutes later. The Ugandan striker was involved straight away with some neat interchanges on the break. James Tavernier’s out-swinging delivery caused problems for the United defence before the ball ended up with Ryan Kent who dragged his shot into the ground.

- Jonathan Hernandez and Brett Martin tag-teamed for the seventh, while Matt Moore threw a 1-2-3 8th, setting the stage for Jose Leclerc to scare us in the ninth. Not a phrase I would ever expect to hear, but Tinoco got the job done, retiring Yandy Diaz and Manuel Margot on a pair of fly outs. Perez allowed Rays on base every inning, and allowed a Ray to get to scoring position in every inning except the first, but until the sixth, the only Rays runs came in the second, when a walk, a couple of singles, and a couple of ground outs resulted in a pair of runs coming across. The Rays got the tying run to third base with one out in the sixth, and someone named Jesus Tinoco was brought into the game to handle things. - Martin Perez couldn’t quite make it six innings, being lifted with one out in the sixth at 91 pitches. Thoughts on a 5-1 Rangers loss (Lone Star Ball)

September is not a month I'm fond of. I didn't enjoy school growing up. I found it tedious, boring, something that provided no value to my life, ...

- Today was a game that showed September in its purest form. When he is at the plate, does he think, I only have 32 times at the plate left, I have to make this count? - September is the sound of the 60 Minutes clock ticking, late on a Sunday — another S laden with foreboding — a trigger to make you think of opportunities missed, chances not taken. A wave that crashes into the rocks, only to withdraw, pull back, leaving nothing but the memory of its presence. A valiant attempt be the pitchers to keep the Rays at bay, until a two run double off Dennis Santana late no longer allows us to lie to ourselves, to mendaciously whisper in our minds that victory could still be grasped, to slam the window closed, to shut the door, to signal that this is September, the beginning of the end. September was the seventh month in the Roman calendar, so it makes sense to call it September. Do you think he looks at the calendar, looks at the remaining schedule and the possible matchups, and calculates, each day, how many at bats he likely has left? A sense of hope, with the game staying close, opportunities early, a bases loaded situation which could turn the tide…only to see those chances fade, dry out, crumble like so many leaves at the end of fall. - September always meant the resumption of the school year. - Not yet, of course. Shorter days, strong winds, the need to wear jackets that inevitably get misplaced or forgotten while out and about. I remember sitting there thinking, there’s no way I can make it through the coming months, make it through the tedium and repetition I’d already concluded school consisted of.

Ryan Kent 'on par' with Jota verdict as Rangers hero demands new ... (Football Scotland)

The former Liverpool youngster has struggled at times this season but Kenny Miller believes he's still as good as Jota.

This season, I’ve noticed that he IS trying to get in the box more and get on the end of things. But Kent can still do more to anticipate chances in the box. "But he took an extra touch to try and go past another man – and the opportunity was gone. "But to score goals, you need to have instinct. "Well, by signing a new deal, the club will at least recoup some of the money they paid for him when he moves on. And when you’re at Rangers you’ll always be compared to players on the other side of the city. But, with just eight months left on his deal, the club simply can’t afford to willingly allow a player of his ability and value to walk out the door for nothing. The Rangers hero does admit Kent is let down by his lack of goalscoring but reckons that in terms of pure ability both he and "He’s got huge games to look forward to – like a Champions League double-header against his old club. He has to impact games more on a consistent basis. And the glaring omission from his game is goals. With his contract up at the end of the season, many are suggesting he's already got his head in his next move and it isn't quite working out for him.
