Preview: Arsenal v Brighton & Hove Albion Women | News (Arsenal.com)

The wait for the 2022/23 Women's Super League season is finally over. We look to our opening game of the WSL season.

Heading into this season, she also holds the record for the most goals in a single WSL game (6), the most goals in a single season (22) and the most goals in WSL history (74). Composed in possession and calculated in her defensive work, the Switzerland captain is one of the first names on our team sheet and plays a vital role in our build-up play. Walti is set to make her 100th appearance for the club this campaign and has become a real fan favourite for the consistency in her performances. Standing at just 5ft 1in tall, Mana is the smallest player in our team, but makes up for it with her close control, creativity and eye for a pass. A magician on the ball and the ultimate professional, ‘Kimmy’ reached the landmark of 250 appearances last season and widely is considered one of the greatest to ever wear the Arsenal shirt. Lotte returned to north London in September 2020 and has since provided a strong aerial presence to our backline, at both ends of the pitch, mixed in with an impressive passing range and ability to read the game. A hard-working box-to-box midfielder, Jordan contributes in all phases of play and still boasts that same engine from the day she first joined the club back in September 2010. A true legend of the Women’s Super League, Jen has racked up well over 100 appearances in the competition and provides experience and stability to our youthful backline. Leah’s game has progressed to a new level under Jonas Eidevall, and that was on show for all to see at Euro 2022, as she captained the team to success in the final against Germany after keeping four clean sheets in six games. During her two seasons in Denmark, Kaylan made a total of 43 appearances and helped the team to successive Danish league titles in 2020/21 and 2021/22. The England international made her debut for the club in 2015 at just 16 years of age, before moving to the University of North Carolina to further her education, both on and off the pitch. Since joining the club from Bayern Munich in May 2019, Manuela has been on a constant trajectory of development, with 2021/22 proving to be her finest season in Arsenal shirt to date.

Women's Super League| Football | 16th September 2022 | Women's Super League Week 1: Arsenal v Brighton, Liverpool Face Chelsea.

As for Tottenham, manager Rehanne Skinner will be looking to take her players to new heights and become stronger contenders for a top-three spot. After a mixed bag of results last season, the former West Ham defender will be hoping he can take the Hammers up a level this year. They welcome Reading to Leigh Sports Village, where a record attendance at the ground is expected, and they will look to get off to a fast start this term. A lot of eyes will be on West Ham boss Paul Konchesky as he takes his first command after being assistant to Olli Harder last term. They were in a strong position to finish in the top three and enter the qualifying draw for the Champions League, but they were leapfrogged by rivals Manchester City. Arsenal got off to a flying start at home to Brighton & Hove Albion in front of a sold-out crowd at Meadow Park.

Arsenal ease to victory over 10-player Brighton in season opener ... (FAWSL Full-Time)

Arsenal have made a winning start to the new season by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 at the LV Bet Stadium this evening.

The scoreline was harsh on visiting keeper Walsh who had been a rock in the Brighton & Hove Albion goal for the first hour of play. After all of her chances in the first half, it was Blackstenius who finally got her goal. The Gunners’ fourth goal did arrive before full-time when Mead got her second of the night. Picking up the ball on the edge of the box, her strike sailed past the diving Megan Walsh and into the back of the net. Despite their best efforts and the occasional burst of attacking presence from Brighton & Hove Albion, The Gunners held just a one-goal lead going into half-time. Elisabeth Terland was through on goal but her shot went inches wide of the post.

Arsenal Women 4-0 Brighton Women: Beth Mead hits double as ... (Sky Sports)

Match report and free match highlights as Kim Little opened the scoring in the first half before Stina Blackstenius doubled Arsenals lead; Beth Mead then ...

"We did well in the first half, we created a few chances. We were a bit more clinical in the final third in the second half. "But I'm very proud of the girls, I thought they were resolute and fought until the end. Then the gaps and spaces get bigger for us to play in and they didn't have the energy to press at all in the end. "It's good to be back at Borehamwood with a big crowd and good to start the league with three points. "I thought we were playing really good football, it was just our final ball and final finish in the first half. "It's a good win and three points on the board, giving Jonas Eidevall the chance to properly assess his team. "Arsenal were the favourites to win Friday's game. While it was the only goal of the first half, there was the sense more was to come after the break and inside five minutes, Arsenal doubled their lead. Despite the then-3-0 scoreline, Brighton goalkeeper Walsh continued to make a string of good saves throughout to keep Arsenal from racking up the goals. Seagulls debutant Elisabeth Terland struck from a tight angle, but her effort bobbed wide of the far post and did little to worry Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger. But ever the perfectionist, Mead believed she and Arsenal could have scored more at Meadow Park, telling Sky Sports News: "I'm a little bit disappointed with a few of my chances tonight.
