In many situations, an excessive amount of drama drags the entire narrative and kills the audience’s attention. Additionally, the series’ employment of CGI and VFX can occasionally feel dull, which detracts from the viewing experience. UNITED STATES: Locke & Key resumes us to the precise position where we left off at the end of Season 2.
The first two episodes of the show established the villain and the new character arcs, including the return of Tyler (Connor Jessup) in the second episode.
When Bode returns, he is possessed by Dodge, who is now back in her full form in the present timeline. He tampers with the grandfather clock and gives himself a timer of five minutes before jumping into the past. Unfortunately, the youngest Locke makes some big claims in front of Dodge, telling them that they are destined for loss. On the other side, Bode finds the Time Shift key and decides to use it. Back at the house, Bode and Nina Locke ( Darby Stanchfield) get into an argument when the former wants to use the Time Shift Key to go back through time to see his father. The episode begins with Kinsey (Emilia Jones) and Bode inspecting the well.

The show has many stories left to tell, so I think that's really a question for them." At the time, she said: "I think that's a question for Netflix. We'd love to do many, many seasons of the show. However, it's a bittersweet moment for fans as the episodes mark the final chapter for the Locke family and their supernatural adventures.

Dodge was the major antagonist throughout the entire series and towards the end, they end up possessing the body of Bode. Rufus Whedon ends up putting Bode’s body through the ghost door and that purges the demon from Bode’s body. It is a bittersweet moment but has an almost Narnia-like impact, as we see the kids together and moving forward with their lives. The family decides to use one of the keys to go back in time to visit their dead father/husband, Rendell Locke. They are able to have one more moment together as a family before getting rid of all the keys. Bode is the most reluctant to do that (as he’s a kid and he loves magic). The Locke kids realize that the only way to be done with all of this is to throw all the keys in, giving up magic. After three seasons, the Netflix series Locke & Key has ended.

Ellie runs out as the cave collapses and the Black Door is buried behind it, never to be opened again. For Bode, the first sign that Dodge was still out and about comes when Rufus shows him a drawing with two Dodges in the living room of his house. Ellie is thrown into the demon world through the Black Door at the end of Season One. Dodge uses the Identity Key to make Ellie look like herself. In the second season, when Josh and Eden visit the Black Door, Dodge/Gabe shows up and tries to kill them by using the shadows to attack them. She meets a tragic end when the first season wraps up, but she shows up again at the end of the second season and becomes an important character in the third. When he was a teenager, Rendell Locke told his friends about the keys and together they became the Keepers of the Keys. One of them is Ellie Whedon.

We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use." This is eveything you need to know: Who is in the cast of Locke & Key season 3?
Gideon and Dodge's evil partnership might not be as stable as we thought, which is good news for the Lockes even if Bode's body is still being possessed.
Dodge insists that she can stop Gideon with the Alpha Key. Has she proven she is on the side of the Lockes? Kinsey thinks so and hands Dodge the most powerful key in the box. Kinsey and Coffey fight first, and Bolton gets his hands on a key in another part of the house and gives it to his boss. In the final scenes, Uncle Dunc calls back to say that the hourglass is a fail-safe; anything brought back through the Timeshift Key that shouldn’t be there will go poof when the sand runs out. She won’t be willing to just disappear back into the history in which she was defeated, of course. As the fight intensifies, a winged Dodge/Bode comes in and grabs Coffey off the ground, flying to the wheelhouse and throwing him over it, causing him to burst into flames. Gideon is trying to merge the demon world and the human one. Could Dodge actually work with the Lockes to save the world? That sort of happens in “Siege,” but while the Lockes aren’t in a great place, there’s been a wrinkle in Gideon and Dodge’s evil plan for world domination. Instead, Dodge is a sort of demonic freelancer, someone who has tried to destroy the Lockes before but thinks Gideon is going too far in his pursuit of entire world domination. Dodge is bad at understanding kid strength.) While they all try to figure out what happens when the hourglass in the magic clock runs out, Dodge is trying to get her hands on the Mending Key to fix the Switch. Let’s go to the chest, Kinsey! She senses something isn’t right because Dodge is barely trying to be a real kid anymore and tries to buy some time. Even with Dodge back, this season lacks some of the suspense of the last two. He is reminded that Mom used it too and immediately thrust into a problem involving magic, keys, and a demon corpse under a bed.
'Locke & Key' Season 3 rounds out the Locke family's collection of magical keys. Here's what to know about the new keys and their powers.
The Timeshift Key unlocks a time travel device inside the clock. In the present day, Bode finds the key hidden in a joker playing card. The Locke kids found the Animal Key sometime between season 2 and season 3, so it’s unclear exactly where they found it. Bode finds this key inside the grandfather clock on Duncan’s (Aaron Ashmore) wedding day in episode 2. The key unlocks a snow globe that Nina found at Keyhouse earlier, and it basically wraps all of Keyhouse’s land inside a giant snow globe. The Snow Globe Key is introduced in season 3 episode 1.

The penultimate episode of the Netflix series goes inside Gordie's head (literally) as the Lockes search for the final key. A recap of season three, ...
A flashback reveals that young Ellie and her friends went into Gordie’s head to remove the memory about the Creation Key and hid it there. They have to take that chance and put the Head Key in the dying man while he’s bleeding out. There’s some pretty awful writing in a scene between Ellie and Gideon about how humans are also bad before things start to really go haywire in Gordie’s head. Kinsey, Tyler, Sam, and Rufus come upon Gordie’s body shortly after Ellie and Gideon have gone into the poor guy’s head. Gideon is riding with Ellie in her “horseless carriage.” He pulls a knife and orders her to speed up. “It would be great to feel like I’m not just a bit player in one of your stories,” says Gordie (and the word bit arguably could be considered a pun there). “One of these days, I’m gonna matter to you.” He’s right! In kind of a cruel writing choice, Gordie is still trying to get acting jobs today that elude him when Gideon and Ellie break into his house. He knocks her down, and the whole scene was kind of a waste of time. But young Gordie Shaw sees the creature that Rendell has created, and he’s not one of the Scoobs. They try to hide the truth from him, but the lizard-man they created literally bites him. The important thing is that Sam wants the opportunity to help Nina and her family, and right now they need as much help as they can get. In the end, it dispatches both Gordie and Sam in a way that’s actually kind of depressing when one looks back on the whole thing. It is almost time to lock up Keyhouse forever as the final season of Netflix’s Locke & Key races to an action-packed conclusion.
In the series finale, the Lockes have their final showdown with Gideon and then find time for a 'Field of Dreams' moment. A recap of season three, ...
• Who were the season MVPs? It seems like Jessup and Jones are the two performers most likely to use this as a springboard to bigger and better things. Rufus is finishing his story while his mom Ellie goes back to work at the school, which has dedicated a theater to Gordie. Tyler reconnects with Carly, whom he is going to return to, but not before they go on a road trip together. He breaks the arm with the muscles in his back and then uses the claw to destroy the well house. She stabs him with the Alpha Key, actually using a profanity like it’s the singular one the writer of a PG-13 movie has in their quiver: “No, you fucking die!” Gideon struggles, and his body turns in time for Nina to actually be the one to push him into the blue abyss. And so does Connor Jessup when he says, “The past is always with us.” In many ways, Locke & Key was a show about people forgetting that they carry loved ones always, even without the physical keys to do so. He wants to go back to see his dad again, and he has the Timeshift Key to do it. While Gideon is joyriding, Tyler and Kinsey make it home and explain the Creation Key to Mom and Bode. They come up with a plan to take down Gideon, who gets there to find Tyler in the well house. They laugh and tell Rendell about everything that happened in Matheson. It’s a really graceful, touching ending that almost recalls Field of Dreams in its “one more catch with Dad” aesthetic. But it landed in a comforting place, suggesting that these characters realize that they can’t play with magic forever and that the only key that matters is the one to their family home. A chase between him and the Lockes ends with Gideon flipping the automobile, which then bursts into flames like it has dynamite embedded in its seats. Gideon is trying to escape too, and the cops stare at the blinking curtain in front of them when the villain suddenly bursts forward. Meanwhile, Kinsey and Tyler draw a door into a bar and then draw a lock on that door they just came through.

That was actually the very first scene we shot for that block, which was good in that we got it out of the way, because we knew it was the heaviest. And it’s a really important scene for the whole family for different reasons, because it’s what gives Bode the permission to feel like he could be okay with Nina and Josh, that he could be okay with letting go of the keys because of what his father tells him. Anyway, so and then Joe really fell in love with the idea, and really wanted to do that episode with us, and be involved in the writing of it. And we thought this was a great pitch to have them have to get rid of the keys. It was just such a wonderful thing to have that, and to have them really be super, not only open to it, but champions of the idea that we were going to take their story and tell it our own way. It feels like, that was the one major concession that we made to COVID was not being able to have those guys back. Gideon is such a blunt object of a villain, to the point that he’s almost like The Rock in Fast & Furious-style bashing through walls in the last episode. So yeah, we were able to recreate the sequence that you’re talking about on the second floor of Keyhouse, we were able to do that at the end of Season 3. So we just thought this was a beautiful way to tell the story of them having to let go, and move on from it. Cuse: We were looking for almost like a narrative circularity, that this family had been launched into Keyhouse by this horrible event, the murder of their father and husband, and they were experiencing a lot of grief from that and dislocation. I don’t know, I think one of the great things about having a partnership with someone as wonderful and talented as Meredith is there’s not a lot of bullshit that goes on. We live in an era where there’s a lot of shows, and it’s hard to have an audience invest in something that’s really long.

They go inside Gordie's head, where Ellie and Gideon were, to rescue Ellie and save the key from Gideon's hands. Kinsey makes a grand discovery and finds the key hidden inside one of the keys of the grand piano inside Gordie's head. Fast forward to the present day, we see Ellie take Gideon to Gordie's house to fetch the key from inside Gordie's mind. Ellie then decides to get rid of the key, and she hides it inside Gordie's head. The story of the magical keys will conclude this season, but not before a fight between the Lockes and Captain Gideon, who is out to get the keys so he can end the world. "Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion. Someone points out that Sam is thanked in the credits, despite the fact he is the one who killed Rendell, and Kinsey says he is worthy of redemption. The Lockes have a family meeting to figure out what to do, with Kinsey, Tyler, and Nina quickly deciding to get rid of the keys for good. Bode tries to point out all the good things the keys have done for them, but the rest of the family says the portal is dangerous and will cause more issues in the future. Using the Creation Key, she draws a door on the top of the chest and is able to get the rest of the keys out, including the Alpha Key. As soon as she gets the key out, Gideon rushes in, grabs her, and holds her over the portal. Bode tells him he doesn't want to get rid of the keys, but Rendell says that by doing so, he is proving they are all stronger than him for doing something he should have done years ago. Scot surprises everyone during the Q&A, and he reunites with Kinsey. She points out that RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) has a global exchange program, which excites him at the possibility of the future for their relationship. Since Gideon can't be killed, he escapes and decides to walk the rest of the way. The two families decide to split up with Kinsey and Tyler grabbing the Creation Key before they leave, and Ellie and Rufus heading over to Josh's house. For a moment, he doesn't have a pulse, but one of the paramedics is able to revive him in time to give Kinsey, Tyler, and Ellie a way out. Back at Keyhouse, the Lockes try to figure out a way to take down Gideon once and for all. When everyone is distracted, the Lockes and Whedons find Gordie's body and get the Head Key back.

Sadly, though, Dodge proves too strong and reclaims their body. Sam finally manages to escape the Ghost Door and get back into the real world by hijacking the body of Bolton, one of Captain Gideon’s colonial henchmen as they attempt to steal the keys from the Lockes. Despite the Lockes trying to prevent him from getting any of the keys, Sam finally managed to get his hands on the Head Key but after doing so, Dodge arrives on the scene to take the key for herself.
Locke & Key season 3 brings Netflix's comic book adaptation to a satisfying conclusion, finally ending the curse of the keys once and for all.
The Lockes decide to destroy the keys, bringing the story of Locke & Key to a conclusion. It's a hint the magic is still out there, and the story of Locke & Key could be resumed should Netflix choose to do so. It means the main characters of Locke & Key gain a final moment of wonder before they destroy the Timeshift Key, and it gives every one of them closure. Anything drawn with the Creation Key becomes real; there's a slightly meta touch to this key, because Locke & Key is of course a comic book adaptation brought to life on the small screen. Locke & Key season 3 ends with the most powerful key of them all discovered, and then with the curse of the keys broken forever. Seasons 1 and 2 focused on the battle between the Lockes and the demon who calls itself Dodge. This conflict came to a head in Locke & Key season 2, in which the children learned to harness the power of the keys as weapons in a spectacular confrontation.
