Rangers penalty incident reviewed by BBC Sportscene (Ibrox News)

Richard Foster has backed referee Kevin Clancy after he waved away appeals for a Rangers penalty in their 2-0 win against Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday.

Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end of a terrible penalty call on Tuesday that led to us losing 2-0 in Belgium. There were plenty of appeals for a penalty at the time and we even thought to ourselves that it should have been a spot-kick in the immediate aftermath. Foster agrees that it wasn’t a penalty because even though the ball did hit Power’s arm, it was in a natural position while he was jogging back into the box.

Rangers facing Marco Negri repeat with Patrick Cutrone deal (FootballFanCast.com)

Rangers are believed to have been offered the chance to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers flop, Patrick Cutrone.

Having previously netted ten Serie A goals in a single campaign while at the San Siro in the 2017/18 season, the one-cap forward may have a Negri-like prolific spell in his locker, although also like his compatriot Cutrone, has the ability to become an anonymous and costly presence for Rangers, as he has proven at Wolves. A goalless stint at Valencia was followed by only a slight improvement at Empoli last term – where he scored just three league goals in the Italian top-flight – with all the signs pointing to a player who is only on the decline. Such was the rapid decline of his time at the club, Negri was even included in The Guardian‘s ten worst foreign signings of all time back in 2000, with the now-retired flop said to have been raking in a tidy £18k-per-week wage despite largely being restricted to the sidelines.

When the Scottish Premiership season got underway last weekend, Rangers had one aim, as did Kilmarnock.

It is early days but it is difficult to see that being the case. Scott Wright is good but is he good enough on a consistent basis for Rangers? Malik Tillman is a wonderful talent but is not explosive. At the same time, weirdly, and contradictory, you could envisage this Rangers squad doing better than their rivals in the group stage if they get that far but it’s not quite as easy seeing the same across a league season. Too good for the Championship, not quite good enough for the Premiership. Rangers’ aim, as it always is, is to win the league.

They face an uphill task overturning the two-goal deficit but Commons believes an early goal will set them on their way to the next round. Gio van Bronckhorst's side looked out of sorts last week but will have the backing of a sold-out Ibrox to roar them on this time around. His physicality poses different problems to their defenders.
